Question about frame
(Preview)
I looked at a Chevelle that has rust through on the frame where the power steering unit and anti-sway bar mounts. Is there a replacement piece for this or do we just do some creative welding to fix this up?

Bryan, I'm looking for the boot that goes on/in the bell housing, the the throw out bearing arm/fork (also called engine fork) passes through it, it's for my 72 Elky. I got one from Ground Up but it just did not fit, pops out after a few clutch applications. I have an old part number from the asse...

I was installing the last door glass today and realized I am missing the horizontal window track that is bolted to the window glass that the regulator rollers run back and forth in, it is about 20" long. I have all the other parts I need, just missing this part? Anyone have one lying around, or kno...

fixed my air cleaner issue
(Preview)
My air cleaner was having fitment problems with the serp belt swap. The waterneck and hose sat too high for the filter to nicely sit on the throttle body so I had it cinched tightly on there but akwardly and it was pinching the bottom pretty bad. While out in the garage today, I found a piece I had bought to m...

Hit the dyno with the crate engine yesterday...
(Preview)
Took the new GM Performance 454 to Wheeler's for a dyno yesterday. What a blast that was. It is a 454HO. We got 489 FT# and 455 hp out of it. 488 ft3 of torque at 2800RPM, wow, there go the tires. It was advertised as 500 ft# and 425 hp. It ran like a dream. My wife stopped by near the end and said I had a &qu...

Well if everything goes to plan I will be heading to the dyno on Friday. Dyno guy is looking at needing the day to tune the EFI so he is not booking anything for the afternoon. Tire Recommendations??
(Preview)
My car is almost complete on the paint job, should have it home in about 1 week to finish out the interior/top. I just picked up a new set of Cragar SS 15x7 wheels, and wanted to get some recommendations on tires. I have been looking at the BF Goodrich Radial TA 235/60/15's, but don't want to jump to quick w...

396 engine build
(Preview)
Well we finally found a 396 for my buddies 69 chevelle. Time to start the rebuild on it. Is a nice core that is still standard bore, has a forged crank, and some later model open chamber heads that will drop the compression down in the 9.0 to 9.5 range. Thinking since they are open chamber and need harde...

Serp belt update
(Preview)
I got a new belt today. After swapping several more, I ended up with one that's 98-5/8" instead of the 99-5/8" one that I had. I'm thinking that the belt still has some slack from being bent up in the package. It went on kinda tight to begin with, but the tensioner probably helped pull the kink...

Dyno Day!
(Preview)
Ahhh dyno day. One of my favorite parts of building hot rods. This engine made 545 in it's last version- different dyno (in CA), different exhaust (open pipes vs. muffs), different headers (Schoenfeld race pipes vs. TPI's own Corvette pipes this time). Air wasn't great today either. Anyway- It made...

Roadmaster Disassembly

Spent the better part of today getting the good stuff out of Buford's interior, and prepping to pull the engine/trans. There is one advantage to "newer" cars. The entire power-unit is designed to plop in as an assembly, and just connect hoses & plugs to the car. Everything's on quick...

Two steps forward, one step back, pause, regroup and move ahead. Seems like I have been doing that alot lately. I got the inclination that the high stall converter and using only a external tranny cooler was not going to be enough. Well I never had an automatic in the car, so never needed a tranny cool...

Finally - 388 comes together!

After way too long and waiting on way too many little things, it's almost all in one piece. As it turns out, not much beyond the crank and heads were salvageable from the previous 383. The new block is .040-over. I had to get a new cam (old one was bent, not worn), new rods (I only needed 2, but Lunati doesn'...

My 72 El Camino compressor bearing failed, I lacked the cash for the repair so I removed the compressor and hoses and stuck them in a box. That was 30 years ago. I just bought an old 396 that has been sitting for about 30 yrs. Something to occupy my time with. Well I just spent the better part of 3 days trying to tear it apart.
