Dyno Day!
(Preview)
Ahhh dyno day. One of my favorite parts of building hot rods. This engine made 545 in it's last version- different dyno (in CA), different exhaust (open pipes vs. muffs), different headers (Schoenfeld race pipes vs. TPI's own Corvette pipes this time). Air wasn't great today either. Anyway- It made...

Roadmaster Disassembly
(Preview)
Spent the better part of today getting the good stuff out of Buford's interior, and prepping to pull the engine/trans. There is one advantage to "newer" cars. The entire power-unit is designed to plop in as an assembly, and just connect hoses & plugs to the car. Everything's on quick...

Vacations, Small Towns, & Mechanical Mayhem... Part I
(Preview)
So... anyone need a step-by-step (including tool list) to replace the oil pan gasket on a '01 Ford 3.0L?? Part I: Due to overlapping schedules, my wife & daughter headed up to the cabin a few days before my son & me. Hence, they had to leave 2 days earlier. I get a phone call... "Honey, we sto...

Vacations, Small Towns, & Mechanical Mayhem... Part III
(Preview)
Part III It's now about noon on Tuesday. Boat's out, stuff's packed, dog's antzy-pantzy, waiting for my daughter to arrive with my Mom's car/lifeboat. She gets there about 12:15. I'm happy to report there were no glitches or Murphy's Law mayhem on the ride home. 4pm, Tuesday. Get the Taurus off the do...

Cooling fan project.
(Preview)
Two steps forward, one step back, pause, regroup and move ahead. Seems like I have been doing that alot lately. I got the inclination that the high stall converter and using only a external tranny cooler was not going to be enough. Well I never had an automatic in the car, so never needed a tranny cool...

Vacations, Small Towns, & Mechanical Mayhem... Part II
(Preview)
Part II: Tuesday morning.... Crap - the boat's still in the water, and the truck is hooked to the dolly hooked to the Taurus. (I really don't want to unload the car, un-hook the dolly, hook up the trailer.... you get the picture.) There's gotta be someone around with a truck & a 2" ball. Yup, Jer...

Finally - 388 comes together!
(Preview)
After way too long and waiting on way too many little things, it's almost all in one piece. As it turns out, not much beyond the crank and heads were salvageable from the previous 383. The new block is .040-over. I had to get a new cam (old one was bent, not worn), new rods (I only needed 2, but Lunati doesn'...

New Project - '66 Wagon
(Preview)
No, I didn't get a new car... (although I like, I like this one... man I want a wagon!). Derek & Co. made a little road-trip Tuesday and dropped off Jenna's '66 wagon. Job Scope: Exorcise and eradicate the multiple electrical demons living in this ride. Attack Plan: Start at the RF corner and work th...

Not a Chevelle project but....
(Preview)
I dropped my Cutlass off at CTI by Fred last night to get the headliner replaced and am picking it up tonight after work. (Fred did the bucket seat demo at a club meeting earlier this year) I'm looking forward to not having it droop onto my head while driving.

Got the motor swapped into the 69 and fired it up saturday and everything sounds great. Here are a couple pictures of everything. Keep in mind this motor is only staying in the car till his 396 is done. So some of it looks a little tacky but is functional. Still need to get the electric fuel pump installed b...

Looking for some referalls on best place to get rebuild kits for 12 bolt differential. I have a Series 2 posi, I am pulling and looking to go to Series 3 Eaton with 3.73 gears. Team Chevelle mentions several posts for Tom's Differentials in Idaho. I there is someone local, I would rather stay local. T...

Back on the Stands again...
(Preview)
Kevin and I drove his Elky and my Chevelle to Shakopee Friday night, and the ball bearings in the washing machine noise in the trans/engine area was more than just once in awhile on the way back home. Did it at almost every light/stop. Every time it happens I can make it stop by putting the trans in neu...

A/C redo,, long post
(Preview)
My 72 El Camino compressor bearing failed, I lacked the cash for the repair so I removed the compressor and hoses and stuck them in a box. That was 30 years ago. This summer I decided it was time to fix it. I am not an A/C guy; I purchased a new condenser and dryer from Ground up, nice stuff fit nicely, new co...

What do I do with this old 396 I just picked up?
(Preview)
I just bought an old 396 that has been sitting for about 30 yrs. Something to occupy my time with. Well I just spent the better part of 3 days trying to tear it apart. Had to cut the head bolts off inside the valve cover on one head to get it off (really rusted). Had to cut the balancer off. Getting th...

Here are some pictures of a car we just finished for a good friend of mine. Now I need to get mine done. We installed the rear bumper pad a day after these were taken. It is a real SS. It was kind of fun researching the info on this to try and get it as correct as possible. Lots of good info came from the Team Cheve...

I have hit the trifecta of car problems on 64 that all interacted with each other. I was so ready to pitch the whole thing and do the LS conversion on the 64 instead of the Elky. 1st - Alternator pulley that failed. The pulley portion separated from the part that mounts to the shaft of the alternator result...

Paint or undercoat underside of floor pans?
(Preview)
So while the trans is out the next couple of weeks... I 'might as well' install the new Pypes exhaust I bought last summer which means I 'might as well' either paint or undercoat the underside of the floor pans since I will have everything out of the way and the car up high enough to get to the bottom side. Th...

Muncie shifter help please

I have a original 1970 Muncie 4 speed shifter that was rebuilt recently. The tranny is a M21 1970. I am having a problem getting it to shift into reverse. It seems that the shifter handle won't go far enough to the left to get it to go forward and into reverse. Does anyone know a Muncie expert in the metro are...
