Treasure Chest addition
Permalink

Have been working on this for a couple of years........

The sale of Crystal Lake Automotive gave the project a little boost.

Plan is a 48 X 40 addition on west end of building. Plus, a parking lot expansion of 20 feet on south side of current gravel lot.

Looked at several possibilities, this made the most economic sense as addition can become office area with very little change to structure. Addition will have both in floor heat plus residential style forced air furnace and air conditioning.

Small kitchen and eating area, plus additional bathroom.

All needed soil corrections were completed with original building construction, this was always the "plan"

Last Monday excavator dug footings, concrete contractor formed and poured footings Tuesday. Formed and poured foundation walls Wednesday - Thursday.

Knocked off Forms Friday Insulated inner foundation walls today.

These pictures show Friday April 21st

Marked up and staked. IMG_1610.JPGIMG_1611.JPGIMG_1612.JPGIMG_1613.JPGIMG_1614.JPGIMG_1615.JPGIMG_1620.JPGIMG_1621.JPGIMG_1622.JPGIMG_1623.JPG

Please note property is not connected to City sewer and H20so it has tanks.

White plastic pipe you are seeing is for waste line to tanks, have a separate line/tank for the floor drains in original building.

Shots of foundation stripped of forms.

Parking expansion, not getting too carried away, using fibre mat under a bit of recycled concrete.

No building going in there, just a little more maneuvering room.

Yup, every day was a Holiday then, busier now.

Busy summer, will dispose of about 10 vehicles, sold three G-bodies today. last one will be on Graves online Auctions in a week or two.

Selling one Blue 2010 Camaro, the 1996 Corvette Collector Addition LT-1 car, and a 2004 Red Z-71 Suburban with 6.0 aluminum head transplant motor.

Was going to sell my 2WD 2003 Arizona Suburban, however, fell in love with it all over again driving it, may keep it.

Scrapping at least two more Burbs for sure.

Farmington Treasure Chest shop addition project.

Residing sides, rear and staining/paint front of my house in Lakeville..

Resolving ice dam issue in 6 rooms of house.

Finally received, transferred titles on a burned 1956 Bel Air Convert and a complete 1964 Cutlass Convert I bought last October.

Highly unlikely I will outlive my projects.

Having fun!

Karl

That should be the goal of all of us: To have enough projects to last until the day we die. I would have to live to 85 to run out.

Thanks,

The Titles were tied up in an estate.

Have one more that UPS lost in January, still waiting for replacement from Kentucky

Supposedly printed.

Still playing in the dirt.

Building is NOT on public sewer and water.

Technically not in Farmington, actually Castle Rock Township.

Farmington has the sewer and water in street, however to access would have to be annexed into farmington.

That would significantly change requirements to build Read: 20-25% to construction requirements/costs.

So, building is on well and tanks, no sewer or water for public source.

Tanks had to be shifted to meet setbacks.

That happened today plus most waste plumbing installed.

Good sized crew, good guys, lots of equipment.

They did not screw around, moved tanks, installed all underground waste lines and hooked up.

No screwing around.

Another good experience with a Sub Contractor.

Only shut down one day.

Pressure testing when i left.

Very pleased so far.

Guessing in floor heat and building concrete are next.

Some Pictures:

I've driven by a few times in the last few days, but haven't had time to swing in and see if anyone's "home" when I went by.
Progress looks great, and I'll admit I'm a bit jealous of the space!

Had to empty some pallet racking, and shift remainder.

Used resources (equipment) available.

There will be a door punched through to new Building once it is secure.

Was planned on and framed when original structure was built.

Note creative use of available assets.

There were two big boxes up top.

One a pair of NOS 1968 Biscayne 2 door post 1/4 panels that Dereks Brother Chad has Lusted after for years.

Also, the R/R 1/4 panel for the 1956 Bel Air Post I had in High school.

Was new, partially installed, cut it back off with a cold chisel and a claw hammer, before I parted and scrapped the car.

Those were the only tools i had when I was 18.

Thanks for the interest.

Plan:

Parent building will be primarily used for long term projects and some light small panel prep and refinishing.

That would include assembly of the Blue Elky (apart 29 years) and body repairs related to my Familys' other old stuff.

That would include two 1956 Chevrolet projects, I added a Burned Convertible to the mix last year, on top of the LT-4, Vette drivetrain and suspension conversion.

Convertible is an easier project than the LT-4.

Still have the 1968 Biscayne basket Case in the mix.

Also added a 1937 Chevrolet Sedan, rat rod, plus two more for parts.

I am a "project pollinator".

I can then bounce back and forth as I feel between various automotive efforts.

I think I have 8-10 total rehab, restore projects, remember, I stop counting at 5.

Have secured additional off-site storage for most of my done cars and summer drivers.

Six of my seven four post storage lifts will move there.

The "west Wing" addition will have another bath, mini-Kitchen, seating, and two lifts.

Center stall is open, no lifts.

The Majority of my tools and equipment will stay in parent building.

Storage in parent building will be more accessible and efficient.

Scot and Rons tools will relocate to addition.

Floors are flat in addition so it could easily be re-purposed to office.

Still can add a little more to east end of parent building for additional future growth or applications.

Wanted to make sure site is adaptable to other potential uses.

Significant security enhancements, plus my favorite stuff not in process will be elsewhere.

Getting organized, still culling the herd, trying to minimize distractions.

Six vehicles gone, did buy a few other "Treasures" in the last year.

Hope to scrap a few more Burbs after harvesting some parts.

Looking forward to six months from now after I tie off a bunch of loose ends.

Karl

A little paint, legal furnace elevation and some detailing.

First Concrete pour today, second on Tuesday.

SOOOOO, close.

Spent yesterday chopping 1x4 for case and base trim.

I am not any kind of a Carpenter, so, Farm style corners are the standard., NO mitered corners.

Original break area back in place.

The odd Misfire Photo of grading and in ground plumbing is the Prior Lake storage building in process.

It will replace my Cottage Grove Unit.

Cottage Grove unit will be sold or traded in on Prior Lake.
