I don't think the rubber mat was ever intended to go over a hump, maybe on a '67, but the boot mount for '66 was flat and followed the floor contour.

Most anything you come up with will have to go over the mat.

Progress continues, a bit of google picture searching and I came up with a shifter boot I thought would work. Fabricated a shifter trim ring, screwed it down and it worked out great I think. Looks almost factory and fit the floor nicely. Interior is all back in but still waiting on my painter to get my steering column parts paint matched.
