Shift linkage for 66 column PG to a 1986 2004R Trans
Permalink

I would like to use the linkage that was in the car with the TH350.  I think this might be the original PG linkage that was modified to fit the TH350.  Here are some photos.  Might this work as is or have to be modified.  Looks like there are a few aftermarket product available.

Might want to look into this. Not sure if what you have is going to give you any adjustability with the overdrive setup.

Your set up should work. My TH350 to 200r4 used the same linkage, BUT my column is from a '79 Malibu too, so it has the travel needed for 4 positions. The trans holds the lever in place us well. You have adjustability with the rod clamp near the frame mount end.

Thanks guys. Looks like I will clean up the linkage. Don’t quite know or understand how to adjust the linkage.  The locker linkage looks like a good back-up plan.

Picture 4 shows the adjustment clamp on the rod. Once the bracket is bolted to the trans shift shaft, with the trans in park, check that the shift lever on the column is in park also. If not, loosen that lock nut on the clamp and move the rod so the lever is in park, tighten the clamp nut and you're done.

When I did the 4L60e in Blackie, the key part was the slotted aluminum lever that replaces/goes on the shift shaft of the transmission. The gear detents on the "rooster comb" inside the gearbox, and the steps in the column aren't matching or linear. The adjustable throw on the shift-shaft lever allows you to alter the geometry of the arc(s) to get them to match.

If I recall correctly, All of the original PG linkage went on the shelf, and I had to fabricate new.

It's a lot of up n down, and miniscule adjustments when you're close!

Also, think about a new PRNODL2L1 indicator for the dash shiftworks.com/collections/components-accessories/products/1966-67-chevelle-column-lens-adapter

My 79 Malibu had a metric t200 with column shift. I haven't thrown any of it away yet, so you are welcome to it if it might help.

Thanks for the offer Larry.  I don’t know it the shift linkage is the same or not.   My trans is a 2004r or you will also see it referred to as 200R4. It is out of an 86 caparice with D (for OD), D for drive, L2, and L1.
