Starter outside block mounting hole, part of casting broken off, problem?

I should have a photo; but not home to take a shot.  I should have checked before.

The outside block hole for the starter mounting bolt has a little part broken off, not into any of the threads, just a little part that the knurl extends into. Should a lock washer be used on this bolt?  Or is a bigger problem?

If you are concerned about the bolt coming loose, I doubt it will. It should be torqued to 35 ft lbs. If the starter housing is aluminum a lock washer will dig in pretty bad when it is removed. I would use an internal lock washer, that has the tangs all the way around. They will allow the bolt to release sooner with no damage.

 Builder says it should not be a problem if I continue to use the starter brace. Due to weight, I was considering a lighter high torque starter like Bob just installed. But concerned about fit and shimming.A s I understand the knurl is suppose to lock the starter so it doesn’t shift and engages the flywheel/flexplate without shifting.  The car had the small 153 tooth flexplate, so I was thinking of using the 168 tooth flexplate and a starter with the staggered pattern, assuming more torque and stability.

Anyone gears of Riverside Starters, CA?  They say they make their own RS41117, HT, mini, staggered, both R & S terminals on solenoid.
