Nobody to blame but myself... I ran it quite a bit with open headers, mostly moving it around the yard, but took it out for some fun a couple times as well. The O2 sensors didn't like that (too close to end of pipe) so it was pouring in fuel.

I put exhaust on it Saturday morning, and took off for a 110mi round trip 10 minutes later.

I noticed oil-pressure was low on Sunday after running it up to 6800rpm, and when I drained oil it was very thin and smelled like gas

Dang that's awful. Let me know if you need a hand with it, or the twin turbo 6.0 you'll probably end up putting in.

Just a small setback for you. Sure looks like you have a bright young helper standing by ready to help, plus Steve is there to do his magic.
Over all in the short road time you had were you pleased with the cars handling and performance? What you expected?

Handling wasn't dialed in yet, and I think I had air in the slave cylinder so I couldn't get it to shift decent at higher RPMs. There were a few other small issues I discovered on tear-down (things left loose that could have caused some headaches later on)

Engine power was awesome, and the new sticky 315s on the rear have a ton of grip. :) Acceleration was great except the shifting issue.

Crank needs to be polished, so tonight I will pick up a used 5.3L to throw in while the stroker gets a complete tear-down.

I paid entry fees for an autocross on the 15th, and I don't intend to miss it. :)

You can't get it done soon enough, or don't want the rush ? I could call my engine builder and see if he can get it done quickly. Don't remember who he uses, but, he may be able to help.

You could always borrow the motor in the G8 . Did it look like it just ran too rich? How did the oil pump pickup tube o-ring look? I've heard of those getting cut and causing low oil pressure.

Baier's in Rochester might be able to get the crank done quick.

Both. I figure this way I can make all the events, and have time to get the rest of the car sorted. I should be able to have it running this weekend. Engine swap shouldn't take much more than a few days to complete once the rebuilt engine is ready again. I'll have a little extra money tied up in tuning though.

I will probably have Baier's do the whole engine build.

My block had been welded before (cracked around 3 head bolts) and the 5.7s don't have much meat to bore them, so I'm going to look for an LS3 block to build a 416ci using my crank and rods. My heads and cam might hold it back a bit, but there will be a lot more potential to turn up the wick later on if (when) I decide I want more out of it.

Sounds like a good plan. You already have a 5.3? I think all the LS engines changed from a 24 tooth to a 58 tooth reluctor wheel around 2005-2006. It will make the swap easier if you stick to 24 for now to match your harness and computer.

Doesn't this make you want to pick up another Chevelle and utilize your LS knowledge again?

I get 4 time slots, as I'm entered in the Street Machine Challenge.

11:00 - noon and 4:00 - 5:00 on both Friday and Saturday.

I finished 26th of 83 drivers yesterday, so I'm pretty happy with that for a first-time out.

Scott LaPointe beat me by a tenth in my own car, as he was having trouble with the Power Steering in his '64 Chevelle so he drove mine.
Scott Parkhurst drove it also, but only got one run in before it seized the idler and threw the belt.

I guess the car wasn't quite ready for a triple co-drive, but we have to find those weak parts somehow. O'Reilly's had the idler and belt in stock, and we got the car back together for afternoon runs. :)

I had no idea how the car was going to behave, as so much of it is different than before. I took a guess at the setup, and nailed it right out of the box. We didn't adjust a thing. Balance was perfect, and the new tires are awesome. I was under-driving the car most of the day as it works so much better than it ever did before and I just wasn't pushing it hard enough.

Yesterday's course was a bit unusual with a really long straight that let me go deep into 3rd gear then brake HARD into a very tight slolom. I had trouble timing the downshift and getting the car settled before the slolom. I gave up a lot of time through there.

Looks like some of us will be heading over to the autocross area around Noon to watch Chris S. and you at 1 p.m. Friday. I just wish it was closer to where we park our cars...that's a long walk!

Wish I still lived close to DCTC Derek, I would have come over and watch you guys drive, or pick up parts for you like the bolt I ran and got for you at Menards.

I’ll get ya there Stan. I plan to bring the car over to watch Derek. At noon when they take a lunch break you can walk the course, maybe that will help me go AROUND all the cones this time....

My runs should look just like Derek’s, only in slow motion!

Chris, what are you running for tires?

I have a set of used 17" 200tw Falkens on black steel wheels that I'm only keeping around for rollers now that I have new 18s. You're welcome to use them for the day if they're better than what you have.

Those would be better than my 14 year old radial T/A’s.

For the 3 runs I may get in my time slot I’ll just run what I have. If I could run more it would be cool to see the difference real tires would make.

With a floor jack, my Milwaukee cordless impact and 2 people, we could change out all 4 tires in 10 minutes.......

I will have floor jack and impact along with, but getting the tires up there might be difficult as my trunk will be full of tools, cooler, chairs, stroller, etc.

Also, lugnuts would need to be acorn-style.

I was thinking you might trailer your car...just so you don't have to deal with the full trunk.
