A quick update on installing the vacuum reservoir to improve the brakes due to only pulling 7" or so of vacuum at idle.

I feel pretty ingenious today as I incorporated the existing bracket for the charcoal canister to mount the reservoir.  The mechanic in Kansas had removed the canister and bracket when he did the AC, and almost threw it away.  I grabbed it and said 'I'll hang onto that thank you very much.'  lol

Other than a slightly longer screw for the clamp, it bolted right up after some fresh paint.

For the $60 I have into the project the brakes do feel better, keeping in mind they are drum brakes and won't be like disc brakes.  I guess it's more peace of mind insurance knowing I've got maybe 2 or 3 panic stops in the system instead of only 1.

"Necessity is the mother of invention" (or so I've heard)... thumbsup

Gearheads are the original recyclers. I used the same bracket to mount my power steering cooler (Econoline van part) on Blackie! (a lot more bending though...)

Now that you have the timing and carb adjustments right, the engine probably pulls a little more vacuum too...
Keep an eye on craigslist for take-off spindles and brackets for a disc conversion. Lots of aftermarket stuff getting installed and original parts getting sold/thrown at times.

Yep, I've got a set of stock disc brake spindles, calipers (which will be cores for exchanging), and backing plates sitting on the shelf.

The only reason I've not put them on is I want to blow the front suspension apart and replace control arm bushings and install the set of QA1 coil overs also on the shelf.  That's a project that I'm holding off until I get a shop built or have the heater installed in the current garage for a winter project to stay out of CAC during prime cruising season.
