Mike's car is now in CAC getting an overdrive swap. He bought a trans from extreme automatics in ohio, a used Art Carr stall converter from a friend of his, and shiftworks shifter conversion. Hoping to have it done in a couple weeks. Only big problem so far is the exhaust is hitting the transmission cross member now that it is pushed back farther. Going to have to take it in and have pipes from the headers redone.

I'm sure Mike will love it!

Related to my post on changing diff gears, what gears does he have to work with the trans?

Are you using the B&M lockup converter module, or a non-lockup converter?

Good tip on the exhaust.  I'm getting ready to either install the 200R4 I had rebuilt or have a mechanic buddy do it in the next couple of weeks along with changing the diff gears, so I'll have to peek under the car and look at the exhaust.  The idea from my buddy was to bring it in to his shop some Sat., and he'll let me use the lift and will lend a hand.  Or I pay him a few C notes and he puts it in for me.  I'm leaning towards the few C notes now with too much going on at work (It's 4:36 A.M. in Taiwan as I write this).  clonk

Mikes car has 3.73 gears in it already.

Trans was built without lockup.

Thanks Chris.

Are you installing the Bowtie Overdrives TV Cable Made EZ kit for the carb?  I've had really good luck with it.  Just need to remember to drop the pan and install the spring that comes in the kit into the valve body.

Funny you mentioned this I was just going to post how I make things work. Here is my recipe a stock tv cable, tv corrrector for what ever carb, and then modify this bracket to make it all work. I wish I could patent this, it works great and is inexpensive. I have used this set up many times and I have always been able to get things ajusted the way I like. The leg off the side with the hole is for throttle return spring to hook into. The slotted part allows the tv cable to be moved forward or back to get initial slack of the cable set. From their you can adjust the cable itself to do fine tuning. The gold bracket is what it looks like before modifications.

That looks like a great easy and cheap solution Chris.  A lot less than the price of this kit that I use!

Stan don't buy their $30 universal TV cable which they recommended for my application. It was not as

good as a cheaper stock style one from Amazon or Rock Auto. I bought one from Amazon for a late 80's Monte SS.

Out of CAC yet with the trans swap?  dunno

Mine goes into the mechanic after work on Monday for the 200R4 swap and 3.55 gears/posi install.  Can't wait!  hyper

If all goes well... pretty sure we're going to drive it up for the Street Machine Natls next month.

It is not done yet. The first TV cable and dipstick tube did not work. Had to search around for some different options. Found a TV cable on amazon that is workong.  Just got the dipstick tube yesterday that looks much better. Going to try and get it all buttoned up today. I will post some part numbers of what all worked when I get it done.

It's the unexpected little things on these projects that are challenging...  I'm sure you will get it nailed.

I'm hoping my mechanic doesn't run into anything unexpected on mine...  I've tried to get all the parts from the trans mount to an extra flexplate in case he finds it's got bad teeth when he pulls the trans, but it's hard to plan for the unexpected.

All done except for the exhaust. Here are the parts that I used to make it work.

ATP Y-226 TV Cable

California Performance Transmission dipstick and tube 77804

Holley throttle and tv cable bracket 20-95 with modifications in the pictures from the previous post.

Hope this might help someone else.

Moving the cross member back for Mikes transmission swapped caused the exhaust to not fit. So had to do some of my best exhaust work ever to make it fit. Thought this was worth posting a picture to get a laugh out of it.

Got the exhaust redone at Scott's Muffler and Welding in Pine City. Took the interstate their and back. Liking the OD. 2400 RPM at 70MPH. 200 RPM more for each 5MPH more up to 3000 at 80. Kicks down at 75.

I have a 10" Art Carr non-lockup torque convertor, 3.73 gears and 28" tall tires.

If you don't mind my asking, what did that cost ? I got a royal "lesson" at Bee Line in Forest Lake on the '38 a while back...angry  Won't be going back there for exhaust work.

Also, you are missing the link from the crossmember on the right side to the e-brake cable.

The two 2.5" pipes and H crossover from

mufflers to headers cost $210.
