Mechanically they are both very good trucks so you cant go wrong with either. I dont know much about the 6 cylinder Ford but I have been told its quite the engine. I personally prefer the looks of the GMC Sierra over the Silverado myself.

I just went through this decision myself. Ford is having issues with the turbo because of the pressure the fuel system operates at. I was advised by a fiend who works for Ford to stay away from the turbo until Ford fixes the issue.

That's what I am leaning towards.

I think when the new 2015, F 150 comes out this fall there could be some good deals on 2014 F150s still on the lot. Might also help drive down prices on the Chevy.

Toyota makes a nice truck that has a good track record.

There would be no twin turbos for me either. One is enough to replace when it quits and you limp home at half power.

The 5.3 in my 2000 Silverado has been a dependable engine that delivers decent mileage for a 4X4.

I like the looks of the '14 Chev/GMC trucks but the cost of a new cowboy Cadillac has gotten way out of my budget. I'll have to wait until they are 4-5 years old to afford one.

I agree. I sure miss my Ram, they are worth a look as long as you are looking.

Realizing I'm too deep in the classic car scene and most likely never gonna finish it.

Have you gone onto kbb.com or edmunds.com and looked up the private owner resale value?  That would determine for me whether or not to sink any more $$ into it, or take the grand on trade in and never look back. 

Stopped by the bank this morning and they could do 2.99% for me and would beat anything the dealer would offer, so armed with that I was off looking again.

Browsed a fricken ton of dealers inventory from all over the metro and I got much more proficient at searching now that I know what I was looking for (I overloaded researching a couple of times, which messed with my sleep).

Since Bryan works at Friendly Chevrolet, I figure I would checked them out and found exactly (missed it the first time) what I wanted at a great price and they gave me double the trade in value for my Trailblazer, which was right in line with what I wanted. Played a minimal game with financing as I would only accept what my bank rate was offering or lower and they made it a happen. I did not feel like running back to the bank to get maybe a 1/4% less and went with Friendly and drove the truck home.

I know I will miss my Trailblazer, cleaning it out, I even found the windows sticker but do love this new truck, all 30 miles so far ;) .

So I now own a Blue granite Z71 Crew Cab short bed with the 5.3 engine, All Star package and heated seats.

Congrats John!  You'll love it.  I love my 11 year old 125K mile extended cab GMC Sierra 4X4 with the 5.3.  It gets decent mileage, rides smooth, and theer's a place to throw car parts! 

I'm really liking the 2014 styling as well.

So of course I had to look up the KBB value, and I'm amazed that a truck this old and with this many miles in good condition still has a private seller value of $10K.  I plan on driving the wheels off it for awhile, so not looking at selling it until it get's closer to the dreaded 185K mile mark (just before 200K miles...), so at my rate of 8K miles per year, I have another good 8 years with it.

Of course, it will probably rust out before then since I have a little cancer starting on the bottom of the driver door front corner (typical for these trucks), so maybe I will have to have Tim H. give it the buff/n/shine treatment.

My Tahoe is about 300 miles from the 200,000 mile mark, wish a new truck was in my future but this one will have to keep running for awhile.

 

 

Speaking of pickup trucks; I ran across this one at a restoration shop here in Ohio. The owner is going to do a frame off brakes, suspension, LS conversion and new black paint. I like it just the way it is.

I'm also thinking pretty serious about this truck...

No worries Stan, good that you have it paid off. My trailblazer was looking pretty corroded underneath and after cutting and splicing the rusted out section of the transmission line, I was dreading the next thing that might need fixing and did not look forward to trying to repair something in the cold again. The timing was right as my gm points were going to start to expire, plus 2 yr no maintenance and 5 yr /100K power train warranty, I can focus on other things, like not laying on my back when it's -10.

I thought of used trucks but they were all high price and can be a crap shoot for how well they were maintained. I figure the trucks are holding their value, so not worried about buying new, it will be probably about 10-15 years before I by again. Almost done with my accessorizing for now.

GO for it Derek....I love those years of truck. Throw in some big brakes, lsx engine and trans, and you have yourself a nice daily driver.

 It's a copy but done very well with the worn paint on the fenders and doors even the Yenko logo and lettering was aged. There also a set of GM inner fenders bolted to the bed floor just for show. I think it's a shame to change it, I'm tempted to dial the phone number to see if someone answers. 

Picked it up last Tuesday.  Fourth new truck in the last 10 years.  Average cost has been about $2500 per yr, plus the sales tax when trading.   Think this will be the last truck.

Wow, $2500/year is pretty reasonable to stay in a new truck. What age and mileage have you been trading them in at?
