NSCC photos and the forum

I keep hearing the same question from a number of members, "Is the NSCC forum dead?"

I can't answer that.

My wife keeps sending me photos of activities the club is involved with that she finds on Facebook.

My question is, if we have have photos of club activities  showing up on Facebook, why are they not showing up on the forum?

Facebook is more engaging simply because you get all your groups and friends all on the same platform... no need to go to multiple different sites to post, and you see club stuff mixed in with everything else so you don't need to seek it out, it just shows up in front of you.

I took very few pictures last weekend, but I really liked this one. thumbsup

May be an image of car and road

I took some pics. working on the newsletter right now. I'll post the pics here in a bit. It's not as convenient to do that here since they're in my phone and I can post to Facebook from my phone whereas on here, I need to go from phone to computer, then upload. I don't access this site from my phone.

I'm with you, Jon. I do very, very little on FB or my phone. People who have become dependent on a phone for everything they do have left us in the past. I find posting pics on a computer from my phone extremely frustrating as they always want to post sideways. As a dinosaur, I still use a camera but did not bring it to the last event. I, also, value my privacy, which there is none when on FB or, for that matter, any site that goggle controls, so I avoid them as much as possible.

Things are being looked into and nothing is set in stone at this point. But the likelihood is the forum is going away and it is going to be Facebook based. The rising cost of everything has made the website/forum cost more then club dues being collected. Yes dues could be raised but that is a double edged sword in many ways. Plus there is still that problem of needing people to fill the club positions. Again I stress nothing has been decided yet, we are getting together to sit down and discuss options and what we think is the best way to proceed forward. If anyone has ideas please fell free to post them or send an email and we will take them into consideration. Thanks

I guess it doesn't matter to me where the original NSCC website ends up. I can adapt in time to anything. I would just like to see all of the discussions, tips, information and photos in one central location.

It seems that most folks working mainly with their phones say that FB is easier.

I don't care for the current NSCC FB page as it is not private. It makes no sense to me to see one post/photos of our club function and the next one of someone from Ca selling seats.

I don't know the logistics of creating a private page on FB but we would need some security to protect out members page. FB might work if we can set up a private page similar to what we have now on the forum.

The times they are a changing, especially for those on the older end of the age spectrum. Some of us may need to adapt more than others.

As a side note, I think most members enjoy seeing photos of our cars, our cruises our members or whatever, so please post those for everyone to share. Photos allow everyone to stay informed and stay in touch, even if we can't make all of the meetings or events.

I had the same thought about Facebook book on leaving the page we have now as a general page and then a separate page that is private for communication between members only. We should have more answer by he time the bowling event comes around that we will share with everyone.

I may be one of the younger guys here, I turn 44 in a little over a month, but I’m a little sad that the forum may be going away. I get the economics of it, though. I’m with Jon and Chris, a privatized FB page for club members only would be nice.

It is sad and disturbing to see this being considered. Yes, it would require 2 pages, which then defeats having everything in one place.
Personally, I would rather pay $50/yr for membership to avoid using FB, but I'm sure I'm in the minority on that.
Right now, I don't know how much I would be involved with the club, if I am forced to use FB. Maybe I can be Like Terry D and rely on emails for information.

Build posts seem to garnish the most participation. Perhaps we need more of those.

In my many, many years, I have been involves in many organizations; some recreational, some civic, some charitable. If a group has strong, consistent leadership, it survives and grows. It takes a few people willing to put a lot of time and energy into it. But those people need to see the result of their efforts.

Until a couple years ago, almost every post started a string of responses. Not lately. Some of the most active members have become busy with their personal life, and none of us, myself included, have filled the gap. There is no blame, but there is opportunity. More members could chime in. We all enjoy reading build stories. I think there a lot of members working on their car, and we would love to follow their builds; or their personal life stories.

I personally prefer the current forum, and am willing to pay more to keep it. But if that isn't going to happen, I like the idea of a FB page, along with a "members only" sub-page. I am willing to help again when my health improves a bit more. My most recent surgery (hopefully my last) was six weeks ago, and the doc says at least six months to get close to recovered.

Whatever is decided, I look forward to it.

Guys I think we are missing the point here, I am sure most of us would be happy to pay more club dues and keep things as they are. But the officers have been at there posts a while and would like some new people to take over. Without this our hands are tied. We are trying to come up with viable solutions without making the club go away completely. Even as a Facebook group we can still have get togethers and meet ups, it will just have to be planned by who ever wants to do it. People can post builds and show everything we do now just on a different format. Please keep an open mind as we try and move forward.
