Beautiful property!
I thought the plan was to retire up there?

Good luck with the sale!

I thought the plan was to retire up there?

At one time yes... but like anything plans have changed. On a recent trip up there the "elephant in the room" about the cabin was breached. The problems of maintaining two properties, drive time, etc. We (and family) really enjoy the "Lake Life", so we went to plan "B". "Plan B" is: selling the lake cabin/property, selling the "in town" house, and finding a lake property within a reasonable distance from the city.

Plan B is moving ahead full-steam. We have found a new home in Mound, on Dutch Lake. We close on it next week. It has nearly everything we are looking for if you combine our current "homes" into one... and you don't have to drive 180 miles to get wet (just walk 100'). The "nearly" is that the attached garage sucks. There will be a new (detached) "40 Watt Garage" being built in the very near future.

In the next 30 to 90 days look for a really nice rambler/ranch home with an oversize 2-car garage coming to market in St. Louis Park.

Interesting "Plan B", we can relate to the issues you have been dealing with.
Probably just not ready to hit the "launch button" at this point.rolleyes

There are as many plans as there are letters in the Alphabet, plus Letter and Number.
Example B Then B1 B2 etc.

Glad you are constantly adjusting and being flexible.
Sometimes we can get stuck and miss other, better options.

Have fun,
Karl

Plan B sounds like a better one... one property, and a primary residence where you can "get away" without leaving.

Nope... The numbers don't work for them - it's a bit out of reach for them at this time in their lives/incomes.

Just signed a purchase agreement/offer/counteroffer for the cabin.

If they've got their Shtuff together (banking/finance wise) it'll close on or about Aug 5

Did you sell it turn key, or do you need to haul all that furniture down here ?

Basically "turn-key"... we're taking a few momentos, knick-nacks, some kitchen stuff, the gazebo wicker furniture, some tools, and the rest is staying.

Yep, same as we did when we sold my Dad's cabin. Makes it so much easier to deal with.

Looking down the road, its good to hear that "Turnkey sales" are common.

We've already got all of the day-to-day living/cooking/kitchen/beds/linens/etc. "stuff" at our primary house... don't need to haul duplicates/triplicates home!
Plus, it enables the new owners to just walk in and start enjoying the place... yeah, maybe some of the stuff isn't to their "tastes", but it's functional for the time being and they can change it out at their convenience.

Bittersweet day - said "goodbye" to a 40 year relationship with the cabin this afternoon. It's not really sold/closed - but we spent the last two days gathering our trappings, loading up a U-haul van and the boat lift on a car trailer, tossed all our sets of keys on the kitchen table, and locked the door(s) for the last time. It's totally in the hands of the realtors now... we're out.

Did get to spend about 2 hours with the new (all things considered) owners. Gave them the in's & out's of the plumbing & electrical, start up & shut down procedures, and other stuff. We are very happy this family "got" the cabin. They have family across the lake, and truly will enjoy & respect the property as we have for 4 decades.

(dripping with sarcasm) Looking forward to unloading the U-Haul and boat lift tomorrow at the new house.
I've gotta get my sheit together and get busy on a plan for the new "40 Watt Garage", start digging the hole, and getting a toy box built - there ain't enough room at the new place!

That's a weird feeling, walking away from a place you've had after that long. My Dad bought the property he built our cabin on in 1970. I and my wife were the only ones of the 3 siblings to take care of it after Dad passed in 2012. It got sold in 2017. It was a relief to not need to do that anymore, but really strange to know we would never be back again too.
Hope you get settled into the new place and get your new toy box built before winter.

I'm glad you're ready to pass it on. I inherited a place in WI, north of Siren, west of Hayward in an area called Voyager Village, little town called Webb Lake. The circumstances made it a place I wouldn't keep, plus I'm not a huge fan of half your cabin time being spent doing chores, then go home and do more when you get back "home". Sounds like your new place will be a good balance of "all under one roof", plus a project to accomplish with the shop.

Just got this a bit ago...
Good Evening Delkes!
I apologize for the delay in getting an email to you regarding closing but we are officially closed and your wire for your proceeds has been sent. Congratulations!

Oh Yeah... "Mother Hubbard's Cupboard" was getting a little bare...

We are officially done with the cabin property.
