We lost an NCC member last night

Many of you are on Facebook and already know this...but Dan Williams passed away last night in his sleep.  His wife Cathy put it on FB, so it's on social media:

I suggest the club do something for Dan and his family in his memory, but will leave it up to the Officers to discuss.

Those in the club will remember Dan, Cathy, and Lilly their dog from Northern Iowa when they were VERY active in the club with their '65 (I think as I always forgot...?) Malibu convertible, as well as usually attending Karl's Bowtie Brunch's in Jan. every year, and made many national events like Chevellebration in TN, the Northern Ohio show, and the Midwest Regionals in KC.  They were also members of the Heartland Chevelle Club in Nebraska.

I'll never forget he 'let' me push him in his wheel chair around Car Craft one year.  We always had good talks together, and I think just about everyone that knew him could say the same.

This hit me like a brick, and I'll miss him.  He is one of the good ones.  Cheers to you in heaven Dan!  beers

This one hurts... I was just thinking about him in the last week, about how I should give him a call since I hadn't talked to him in several months. Every phone call was at least an hour with him since we both liked to talk, so I just needed to set aside some time to catch up. I really wish I had made that call.

I too have been thinking I am long past time to talk to him. He was about as fine a human being as you will meet. When we had a tech session at my house, he came all the way to Coon Rapids to lend moral support. He called me to ask about accessibility, and told me if I would reach the good candy out of the cupboard, he would come.

I too was looking forward to seeing him again. I will miss him.

I pulled this from a Northern Ohio Chevelle Club facebook post:

May be an image of 1 person, car and text that says 'NORTHERN OHIO 1964-1988 Dan R Williams Thank you for being great Chevellian!'

Dang, that's a raw, painful, headline to open. I wasn't aware he had other health issues ? Seems too young to go from natural causes.
As usual, no fb pic comes thru on my computer.
I remember him talking about moving further south at the last Bowtie Brunch we had, but didn't know he had gone to AL. We recently traveled the entire length of that state twice. Wish I had known, we maybe could have stopped in.

I will miss Dan also. I always enjoyed talking with him at events as he was so easy going. God speed Dan.

He was a true gentleman and yes, he will be missed. It was harder for him to travel and yet he made many club functions.

A privilege to know him.
Gentle and wise.

The "chair" was just an assesory to him and those nearby.

They bought a condo in AL right on the gulf, overlooking the beach a few years ago after Cathy retired from Winnebago. The first couple years they just spent the winter there, but when COVID hit they decided to stay down there full time.
Dan had a lot of health problems, including MS. It seemed like he spent a month in the hospital almost every year for the last 8-10 years. He'd always tell me about it after, but I don't think he wanted people to be worried about him or see him when he wasn't doing well.

When I lived in Dexter, he would stop by often on his way home from visits to Mayo Clinic. If the weather was nice, we'd sit in my driveway and talk for hours... sometimes way into the middle of the night. More than once I remember saying "Well Dan, it's 3am and I need to get up for work in 3 hours..." and then we'd talk for another half hour. He was a night-owl. If you called before noon, you'd wake him up and he'd be grumpy.

We had a lot of beers together over the years in hotel parking lots at the big Chevelle shows. Great memories of a wonderful friend.

Thanks for the update, Derek.
Thankful he got to live out his last years on a sunny, warm beach with salt air to breathe and the songs of Gulls to listen too.
