Wii I break anything trying to lift the engine this way?

I would find a set of the factory brackets that go under the intake manifold bolts. I probably have an extra set if you don't find any close to home. I definitely would not trust two bolts into an aluminum manifold.

I usually lift by the bolt holes in the heads for the exhaust manifolds. Just pick 2 near the center that balance decent, and you can easily tilt the engine by hand.

Thanks guys. I am having brackets made for the exhaust manifold head (did not work here as I needed a quick solution due to dyno tomorrow). So I used the two rear intake manifold heads and the two upper water pump bolt holes. This may or may not work with the trans installed. Here are a few photos.

Heres how I do it. I do have to put on valve covers that I don't mind getting scratched before I lift it though.

Wow, is that aluminum heads? I see you getting them engages at a young age?

Yes, aluminum heads and aluminum block. It's an LS1 stroked to 383"

The helpers make it a lot easier so I can guide things into position while they run the jack.

When it comes to install, we will use the equalizer for tilting again. I had grabbed it a while back and used it to install Andrews engine/trans a couple weeks ago.

Won’t be anytime soom. Hope to have engine pay cleaned and ready to paint by June. 6th. Family from AK and AK will be here for 2-3 weeks. Rachael has major wrist sugery on June 15th.

I've used the intake manifold threads in the heads many times, and no issues.

I've also used the lifting plate on top of the intake manifold with the trans bolted to the engine and never had a problem.

Both methods with a BBC with the trans still installed so it's lifting 500-700 pounds.

I guess I've been lucky or there's a lot of urban myth's out there. Having said that, I ALWAYS keep hands and feet clear of the potential 'drop zone' if something goes bad.
