Rear 68-72 hood bumper pics please
Permalink

The rear hood bumpers are missing from the Heavy Chevy, so I ordered what I thought were rear bumpers from Soff Seal, but they have nubbins on them and don't fit over the hex top of the stud.  I also have extra front hood bumpers thinking they might fit over the hex top of the rear stud, but the opening isn't big enough.  That's the pic I attached.

Can someone take a pic of the rear hood bumpers from a 68-72 for me to reference?

Thanks!

I don't recall those ever having a rubber bumper. That bolt should align with a slot in the hinge to prevent the hood from coming thru the windshield in a frontal crash. There should be bumpers on the inside of the fenders for the hood to rest on, but the hinge should be the down ward stop of the travel.
I did find these, described as rear bumpers. The page won't let me copy the pic, as they are copyrighted.

Stan, I checked mine and I do not have any rubber/covering on those back bolts. I did not even see any sign of them rubbing on the hood, nor do I hear any rubbing when driving it.

Mitch is right again from what I'm finding.  tiphat  Thanks!

The cowl seal is missing, so I'll get that and see if that helps cushion the back of the hood since it shakes there at highway speeds.

cowl seal should help. If the hood shakes a lot, your hinges are probably worn out.

I knew something was missing!  I just happened to walk by the old cowl hood from the 72 vert project,  and noticed there is a bumper mounted on each side of the bottom of the hood.

I installed the new ones so now it needs a test drive,  but that should stop the back of the hood from bouncing.

There should be a short seal about 8"-10" long or so at the back on either side with the raised or cowl ind. hood, can't tell from the picture if the seals are there. If you look at the picture of the old hood you will see the mounting holes for the seal.
