Bucket Seat Question for 66 and possibly 65 owners
Permalink

Looking for information regarding a spring that maybe was used to retain the back of the passenger side bucket seat from flopping forward on 66 chevelles and possibly other chevy models.  Was there a spring located down in the bottom of the seat area to the door side that had the end extend up though the bumper pad that attached to the stop on the seat back?  It is possible this was only on the passenger side as there would have been a driver o n the other side.  In 67 they used a different method with the push button to retain the back.  Thanks

Check out this auction the 5th photo, bucket seat on the right, think it is for drivers side.  Zoom in and look at bumpers for back rest.  Thinking a spring end with long wire came up and hooked into metal part of bracket that rested on the bumper.

I've never seen a spring for that purpose on any non-latch bucket seat.

They probable broke and no one the wiser.  I have the gm part # and have found a few photo’s Of the special rubber  bumper. An acquaintance Bruce (AZCamino on TC) is installing the original one on his 66. And will be posting photo’s.  Maybe not all fisher plants installed them.

If you look at the two metal posts on the back rest of the seat that sits on the rubber bumpers you will see the right metal  bumper-pad has 2 little holes in it for attaching the spring which came up though a hole in the special rubber bumper, gm 7587040.  The other rubber bumper is gm 4490646.  My car had all 4 rubber bumpers like that.
