Fuel filter Reccomendations

A friend of mine is installing a new carb on his car and bought an Edelbrock fuel filter. He opened it up to inspect and it appears the chrome/coating is flaking off inside because the filter already has debris in it. He was wondering if there is something that people have had good luck with?

All I have is the stock filter in the carb so I’m not much help.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I would use a small wire wheel or 120 sand paper and knock all the loose chrome out of the housing and use it, or they do come in colors with anodizing, which shouldn't flake off.

My experience with the white teflon tape is that, if it gets gas on it, it will dissolve and leak. If the tape is necessary to seal a leak, use the yellow tape rated for gas/steam.

There are a lot of AC filters still available from GM or restoration companies.

I go to O'Reilly's and use a metal can style one.  I don't know the pn, but if you're lucky you can find someone behind the counter that will open up a couple of filter boxes and show them to you.

Like Stan, I use a universal 3/8" line metal can style. Got it from O'Reilly's. P/N MicroGard 33033. Equivalent to Fram GFG15M.

I like what Mitch said, get the flakes off and use it. With a little light sanding around it, it will look like brushed aluminum.

Fram universal plastic housing clear filter. No metal to flake off and you can see the crud that's trapped. Part # is G2, or G3... don't remember - different hose inlet/outlet sizes depending on part #
