AC Carb Solenoid Project

Even though I have the carb dialed in at idle, the rumpity rumpity cam still doesn't like the AC compressor load at idle, so I bought the Holley AC solenoid bracket, a NAPA solenoid I found that was $65 instead of the $85 from Holley, spliced in the wire into the AC switch, and it works like a charm.

After I turn on the AC I just have to blip the throttle and the solenoid plunger extends to bump the idle a few hundred rpm, and it's happy.  Shut the AC off, and it goes back to a normal idle.

I think I'll need the AC this weekend either on the Farmington Dew Days cruise (may get rained out now due to strong T-Storms), or on Sat. for the cruise.  Bring on the heat!

I did installed a solenoid shortly after I got the A/C working on the Chevelle, makes a big difference. Now, I found the better the idle quality or "the better the carb was dialed in" the better the driveability/clutch engagement (witch was the real goal), the less the solenoid is needed for A/C. So when I first got the car running the A/C would kill the engine at idle. After a lot of changes and experimentation the engine will idle without the solenoid with A/C on, however about 200 RPM slower so I still use the solenoid.
