Had to move the Chevelle from one side of the garage the other day, so took a few video's to remind me of the sound of Spring at various fast idle rpm's.  Plus this way I have video's to use when I put the engine on CL.  stirpot

Turn it up and enjoy:

Sounds great Stan, gives a guy the bug to want to go for a spin.
What’s this about selling the engine?

It's been a good running little 350, but it's still a mystery motor to me and a little tired (compression is a bit low and it has a little oil blow by when I really get on it), so I'd like something with a little more HP and freshness to it.  Ideally I'd like a 383 for the torque, but Chris P.'s engine would do the job too if that worked out.

How much do you want for it? My BIL is looking for a cheap running smallblock to get his Firebird back on the road.

I was going to list it on CL for $800 minus the carb I just bought last summer and keeping the accessories that I need to flip over to the replacement engine.  It's an 010 block, but no idea if it has 4 bolt mains.

It has camel hump heads and an air gap intake on it.  I'm not sure what cam is in it, but it sounds pretty stock.

For a friend of yours, I'd take $700 for it.  PM me if there's interest and we can go from there.

Thanks.

Does he already have a Chev engine in it ? If not, there's a lot of changeover, including the trans.

Fuel line is on the opposite side as is the battery to run a cable to the right side. Pontiac is on the left.

He could probably work a Camaro battery tray in to get a shorter starter cable, but the fuel line needs to be run across the cross member to the right hand fuel pump on a Chev.

It's a '78 Formula, Chevy 305 from the factory.

He's talking LS swap now, so I don't think he's real interested at this time, but thanks for the info Stan.

Interesting...I didn't know they put SBC's in Firebird's of that era.

Not another darn LS!  That's o.k.  maybe I'll need to adjust my price as SBC's just aren't as popular anymore.  I don't want the hassle of LS engine mount relocation, header issues, trans mount, controller, and on and on with an LS swap.  Much easier just to go Gen I to Gen I again for my budget.

I'm with ya there, Stan. All Ive ever seen in a Firebird is an Olds 403...

At least having the sbc would make a Gen I swap easy...

And yeah, the sbc has fallen rapidly from the desired Chev small displacement engine in the past few years. Having a 4 bolt 350 block used to bring a decent price, now you're lucky top get $100 for a buildable block...doh

Speaking of Gen 2 Firebirds...just saw this jem on FB Marketplace that I think is a cool survivor car, or at least looks like it for $7K.  Seems a little high, but not bad compared to what 70's Firebird TA's are going for these days!

That's what I thought.  beers

Now if only Uncle Sam is kind to us on our taxes at the accountant in the morning...I could be so lucky.  My 3rd garage stall is tall enough for a lift to have two cars, which is cheaper than a new shop.  stirpot

Good luck with the taxes for 2017.  There only going up next year, I assume your accountant gives you an estimate of your tax liability for 2018.

Go for the 383!! I guess I am partial. No racing for me this year. I broke several things last year I had to fix. I plan on car shows and cruising. With that said, I am having some custom things done under the hood!!

Broke:
Power steering pump...cavitated the pump and over spun it. Getting rebuilt now at Tom Lees power steering in Ca.
Cracked a passenger side spindle
Blew lower radiator hose.

Little stuff but racing is damm hard on these heavy pigs...gonna give her a rest this year.
