I have a route planned out with non-oxy gas stops along the way. The quick details are to meet in Hasting as our official starting point. Jump over to the Wisconsin side and drive down 35 to elemers. Mapquest indicates it to be about a 2 hour drive one way. I will have Jenny Email more information in the coming weeks with times and full details. Please reply in this topic or email back to Jenny if you plan to attend. Would like to get a rough head count.

Break out the AED and lube the paddles...

Blackie's coming out of hibernation for this one - rain or shine. Count on two.

Still looks like thunderstorms in the am, then rain if the afternoon.  Any chance we will change to the 22nd?

It won't be the first time for my Malibu driving in the rain.

If I remember the club history correctly, the first 'get together' after meeting on Team Chevelle was for a Fall cruise in Oct., and it happened to be raining if I remember the picture I saw of the group that attended.

I'll decide which vehicle to drive in the morning, but worst case will drive the truck.

Weather.com is saying less of a chance south of Hastings until late afternoon, so if it's spotty showers I'll drive the Chevelle.  If there's storms and high winds that are also being forecasted, the Chevelle will stay nice and comfortable at Karl's place.

This was emailed to everyone but incase you did not get it here is the info.

The cruise to Elmer's Auto and Toy Museum is this Saturday, October 21st.  Please see the attached map and meeting agenda.  There is a $10.00 entry fee at Elmer's.  The Club isn't paying, so if need be, rake a neighbor's yard this week to cover that and fuel!

We will meet at the Holiday gas station at the intersection of Highways 10 and 61 in Hastings at 8:00 AM, leaving by 8:30 AM.  Following a 2 hour drive, we should arrive at Elmer's around 11:00 AM, where we will have the meeting.  After 2-3 hours at Elmer's, members can head for lunch or home.

Initial meeting place:
Holiday Station Store

12370 W Point Douglas RD

Hastings, MN 55033

The Holiday does NOT have non-oxy fuel, but the Freedom station across the bridge in Prescott does.  We can stop there to top off.

Non-oxy fuel:

Freedom Value Center

236 Broad St N

Prescott, WI 54021

Restroom break, non-oxy fuel, meeting other members:
Kwik Trip

119 Lake Shore DR

Lake City, MN 55041

Non-oxy fuel for the ride home:

Kwik Trip

41 S Shore Dr

Fountain City, WI 54629

If you're planning to attend and haven't already done so, please post on the 'October 21st Cruise to Elmer's Toy Museum (This is the club event)' forum thread or reply to this e-mail.  The Staniecs cannot attend, so if someone could take meeting notes in my absence, I'd appreciate it.  Feel free to reply with any questions, and I will do my best to get them answered.

P.S.  Don't act like a bunch of hoodlums and pi$$ off the locals going through Prescott.  I'm from there, and I'd probably hear about it.

Thanks!

Funny thing is we didn't have hardly any weather issues in Kansas City for car events...so I thought maybe I'd made the weather Gods happy.   headscratch

Not much room for a bathroom break at the Kwik Trip at 119 Lakeshore Dr in Lake City,  More parking and larger bathrooms and more gas pump at the Kwik Trip on 63 towards Rochester, just a 3/4tj a mile from the Lakeshore Kwik Trip.  Much nicer drive to take 58 south from Red Wing, then Goodhue 5 to Lake city, and 10th street to Kwik Trip.

I'll be taking a daily driver. I don't care if it rains, but its just not fun to drive the Chevelle in crappy weather. At least I'll still be in a car with a turbo (the size of a pop can...)

I've had the same tank of fuel in the car since March, and I want to find out how the Comp 2's stick in the rain. Blackie needs an undercarriage wash, so he's getting wet.

Looks like the Chevelle is staying inside.  It's raining hard and thundering here in Apple Valley at 6:50 a.m.  Hastings weather is calling for rain and T storms, then we'll drive out of it going south, but too messy to deal with the road aftermath on the Chevelle.  The old wiper speed just doesn't keep up like the new cars either in heavy rain.

I'll be driving the truck and bringing a friend that I used to work with that is restoring a '66 Malibu.

Can  someone call 850-240-3405 when you guys get to Red Wing?  Jim

Had a GREAT time today seeing everyone and the museum tour was awesome!  Wish they would have let us take pictures of all the cool survivor cars.

My friend Randy had a great time, and while not really a 'club' kind of guy, told me the group was fun to be with and he really liked talking '66 stuff for his project car.  He's been going through some serious medical stuff the past few months, and he said it was a fun day, even though him and his wife drove on the same roads just yesterday for a Fall cruise of their own.  He enjoyed being a passenger, and having a chance to see a lot of stuff he missed as the driver.

It felt like I haven't been gone 2.5 years, and picked up right where we left off.  Just shows that even on a rainy, windy, dreary day we all still enjoy each other's company!  beers

A few 'project' Chevelle's were on site:

So, what was the story with the Chevelles sitting and rotting? Does this guy have no soul?

I think they are there strictly for "decoration" and to add to the atmosphere of the place. I didn't make it this time but when the club went around 10 years ago. There was a 68 Chevelle SS in that same row of cars that are growing in the weeds and another row was a 69 396 Impala plus a 58 Impala coupe that Dereks brother Karl got them to sell him a part or two from the interior. Even the 3 deuce carb setup was still in place. They know what car guys like and put the good stuff that was junked for everyone to see but wont really let you get close enough to really check it out. At least they wouldn't let us at that time.

He has hundreds of cars outside like that, plus dozens inside that were in FAR better shape. Had a MOPAR wing car with @350 original miles, a bunch of 1 of xxx stuff, easily a hundred pedal cars, and a very extensive toy collection taking up a couple barns packed wall to wall.

old school boneyard, though I bet it's pretty over priced. He wanted $5 a piece for a tour of the actual junkyard...... nope.

We weren't allowed to take pictures from inside the buildings, but rest assured that there were tons of quality survivors and rare cars. There were a couple toy price books on one counter that were produced by him, using pictures from his collection. 350+ pages each, 100+ pictures each... copies of the books are still for sale too: https://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Price-Guide-Toys-Vol/dp/0895380463

Unfortunately, both Elmer and his wife have serious medical conditions that are forcing him to make decisions about selling it all. It may not be open after this year.

Hard to say, the one guy I talked to that has worked for Elmer most of his life, said the vultures are already circling. One guy from Africa want's to buy it ALL in one lump sum and has flown here to talk with Elmer about, as recently as a couple weeks ago. No idea if he would move it or auction for profit.

Its also my understanding that there is a 67 or 68 427 Biscayne out in the  junkyard section and its numbers matching engine is inside one of the yards buildings, not one of the museum buildings. Plus there was also that real GTO Judge that was in the yard there too.
