8 Track tapes

I recently unearthed an old stash of 8 Track tapes we had stored away. No cost involved, if anyone has an 8 tack in their car and needs something to play get a hold of me.

I have about 3 dozen left from their heyday and a home player. I tried to play some several years ago and all the tape seams are dried out and fall off. I keep saying I'm going to send them out for repair, but never get to it. If you try to play them, the tape will most likely come of and they will unwind in the player.

Between satellite radio, vinyl, cassettes and digital who needs 8 track!

No player in the car. The only 8 track equipment the car came with was the ash tray that would have been in an 8 track car.

I remember the old 8 track tapes and players. They were poor quality junk when they were new.

When the sacrilegious offence is verbal, it is called blasphemy. They really were bad. Very short life span. Didn't hold up well to heat, cold or dust.

I had a Craig high end floor mount player in my Camaro and it worked great. Many features like just playing 1 track and stopping or all of them, or repeat, continuous play. The tapes themselves could be problematic when the splice came off. It played in stereo too and I had dual 6X9 speakers in the package tray. When Led Zeppelin's "Living Loving"  came on and the sound switched back and forth on the speakers, we all thought that was about the coolest thing we had ever heard.notworthy

My Sony home player has all the same features and will even record over an used tape.

 My neighbor had a '66 Le Mans with that and it was cool but still only 1 speaker in the back. I had my Craig running thru a 5 band graphic equalizer too and would crank the base until the windows rattled...laughing

Come to think of it, I believe I still have that equalizer somewhere in the shop !!!! I need to find it and install that in the Chevelle when it's together again...thumbsup

I did have cassette tapes and corded phones through rotary dialing was phasing out.

About five years ago a neighbors son who was in junior high was with us at my mother-in-laws cabin. she still had a rotary wall phone at the time. One evening we saw him poking his fingers into the holes and asked what he was doing. He replied he couldn't get the phone to dial or even make a beeping sound when he pushed the numbers. We all had a good chuckle over that one.

My 76 Camaro I had in high school had a working factory 8 track. Had a few tapes from my parents. Steppenwolf, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac got the most play. Captain and Tennille not so much. My grand parents had a working party line in there small town when I was kid so not only have I used a rotary but I've used the old wooden box where you speak into a a tube and hold the black ear piece connected by a cloth covered wire. Also recall slide projector and photos at home. Was always fun to pick up stuff at the Photomat booth in the parking lot. We never were a home movie family but remember an uncle who liked to use his 8mm camera at family functions.

My mom had gotten a extra extra long cord that stretch to about 12 feet. That was such a great thing to have on the phone.
