Jim, you can do the AC restoration and or install. You have done much more complex jobs on your car. I was apprehensive at first about doing it and now I'm on my third ac system build/rebuild plus a tractor and combine. There are some great sights on the web with some very helpful folks.
You can do the mechanics of the install and setup, just have someone evac the system and put the 134 in.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.  I will try to do the install  myself,  I have a friend who has the stuff to put the R134 in.  What I am concerned most about is determining if I need a new condenser and if the compressor has to be rebuilt.  I may call on you for advice.  Whats with the farm equipment, how many much ground do you run? 

The AC had not worked on this in some time but it ice cold now.

 Thanks Bob,  Not in a hurry,  Thinking of a winter project and would like all the help I can get.  I just got the under dash unit, etc yesterday.    The compressor is  a rebuild, the rear part has the casting number for a sixties corvette/camaro 6555302; but I think they used a center section from some mystery piece as the bolt holes for mounting on the front seem to be metric.  I would like to use an original A6 unit designed for the chevelle; but who knows if I can fine one.  The condenser is also odd as it appears to be for a later unit where the exits are on the top pass side,  the 66 chevelle condenser has outlets on the top and rear, I think.  I think it would be very similar to your 66 Impala.  Do you have any photos of that unit you could share?

 Well I just wanted to see how the unit fit and looked in the car.  Apparently it is for a car without a console.  Anyone need some AC stuff?

Evidently my research was not good enough. I believe it is for 67-72 and thought it would work in a 66; but I guess without a console.
