Some of the guys from the MACC club are meeting for breakfast then going to Mecum KC Saturday, so I'm going to join them.  I'll try to post some primo Chevelle pics from the auction.

If anybody has a car on their wishlist they want me to bid on, wire me the money tomorrow.  cool

Otherwise, watch for me on TV!

I will gladly pay you Tuesday for the price of a nicely finished Chevelle.. At least maybe an easy payment plan. Is this the one that used to be in Des Moines? I went to one in December in KC once.

O.k. Whimpy!  beers

Yes, I believe they used to go to Iowa until the state wanted them to transfer all the car titles into Iowa before selling them was the rumor I heard.  Talk about a revenue generator for the state!

Here's a '68 SS Chevelle with the factory installed Buick interior (claimed to be) that I think happened when Chevy ran out of parts, so they used the Buick stuff on the shelf?

Yea, seems Iowa didnt like the fact that they were loosing all that money on the taxes involved in transferring titles for cars that they came up with this hokey way to force Mecum to comply with so Mecum politely told them to go pound sand and canceled thier Des Moines auction. That was in 2013. I guess Iowa and Des Moines didnt take into account the amount of money Mecum brought into the economy there.

I went though the list of the Chevelles and El Caminos. This one is my favorite. Actually, I think you should auction off your convertible and replace it with this convertible instead Stan. Sweet car for sure. Too bad its bench on not buckets but still 4 speed though. But it has factory air.cool

I would be curious to see where this one ends up at as well as the 70-72 El Caminos that cross the block.

Sorry Chris, too many headlights for me.   razz

Looks like it would be right up Jim L.'s alley since he's expressed interest in 1.) 66's, 2.) convertible's, and 3.) Original AC '66's.  Jim, it's an easy 6 hour drive from Lake City to check it out!  stirpot

Here you go Chris:

'71 Elky for $18K

That white '66 Chevelle convertible went for $39K!

One for Scott P. in the 'Bid Goes On' at $25K:

'87 Grand National

Did you buy the 66 Stan?  $39,000 was a good price,  I would have paid more.

Wow, someone stole that for 39K. Makes me think something wasnt right upon personal inspection. Or perhaps white isnt a popular color but I dig the color personally. 18K seems a bit much for that El Camino though.

I looked at it today at the auction, and I would describe it as a high survivor quality car.  All the chrome appeared to be original and was driver or worse condition.  Biggest thing going for it was it had the original driveline, it was an original AC car, and it was a convertible.

Chris I also thought the Elky sale price was a little high. Small block, auto, Malibu, different looking rear stripes, an AC car with what appears to be no compressor, but the hoses are there.

Last fall at the Alburn auction I watched a ruff 71 Elky SB, auto with a sprung hood and poor paint go for 18k. Sometimes I think it depends on who's in the seats and when the bar opened.

The 66 vert was very nice, and as Stan said original, Jim should have been there.

The rest of the '70-72 Elky's all had 'Bid goes On' stickers on them, and most were in the low teens on the highest bid, so not reaching reserves.

Some cars did really well like the resto modded Charger and Camaro, and others didn't bring enough to hit reserves.  KC is more 'midwestern' in the pricing (lower), and not a lot of money in the room like at BJ or some of the bigger ones.  Still a nice size auction with 700 vehicles though.  Will probably go back in December if nothing else is going on.

Chrome is not an issue or is SS or aluminum.  Only draw back would be if body panel repair work had been done and if so how well was it done.
