... to look into the asking price of this old gas station where I'm moving to. It's got a cool 60's look to it, and would make an awesome private shop. Only issue is it's on a main intersection, so I'm sure the seller is looking to cash out. So many ideas... so little money!
If it had the old pumps, signage and other memorabilia it would be more fun. There is a guy I met who took his garage and added some old patio doors he found on the curb to make a look a like an old station. A whole lot cheaper. You are only limited by your imagination.
While it would be neat, lot of liability, especially pollution aspect.
Yikes, you're right. Any leakage of oils or gas from years ago is in the soil and the building could have old lead based paint, that you can't scrape off without special equipment.
The liability factor took the "fun" right out of that neat old building. It may need electrical and plumbing upgrades to meet current codes too...yikes again. Looks like a fun toy box but could become a nightmare in a hurry.
Stan, can you downsize your pics or post them from Photobucket, so they are automatically downsized ? I have a 22" monitor and I have to scroll a LONG way to the side to see them...

Mitch you and John E. are right from the liability perspective... that's probably why the building is still sitting there and nobody has bought that corner as it's got a lot of traffic flow by it.
Sorry about the pic size... I don't know how to make them smaller other than changing settings on my phone?

LoopNet says : it's for lease. 1600 Square feet, going for 18/sf/yr, NNN. That means that you can rent it for 2400 a month, and then you are paying for the taxes, the insurance, all the maintenance, etc. Not a great deal for a hobbyist workshop. There are no underground tanks, they have all been removed.

That's cool that you came up with all that, John.
Yeah, the payment alone should be more than enough to cover all the other expenses too. I'm betting it will be available for quite some time.
They are working it for the location... location... location... It is in a good spot at a busy crossroads for traffic. I talked to a local guy last Sat. at the Mecum Auction about it, and he told me the last business in there was a liquor store.
Thanks John for digging up the details.
