The engine in my '62 Impala is from an 80-85 era truck. It had no dipstick but there were 2 in the car. Neither fit because they were too big. I started searching on line and that era block does have a different tube. I bought 2 tubes and they were both too large to fit in the block... I wasn't able to come up with a GM part number, so I email Bryan with my problem. He came up with a part number and said Merit showed 1 in stock. I stopped there yesterday, with my caliper, and sure enough it was the correct size. ALL the tubes being sold for this block are .375, while the hole in the block and correct GM tube are .360. I also bought the corresponding stick, came home and the tube slid right in... I now have a dip stick to contain the oil when I start it...so thanks again, Bryan...
Is there such thing as a cheep 409 engine.
When Randy moved Competition Engine to his new location, he disposed of piles of 409/348 blocks and heads that had been collected over the years by the previous owner.
