There is a 60 chevy that I am thinking about maybe buying.  The owner has lost the key and the car has been stripped for body work and paint. But everything that came off the cars exterior in preparation for body work is in the trunk or interior of the car all locked up.  I would want to check the floors and trunk pan along with verifying it has all the exterior emblems, chrome, etc.  Or do you have to get one of those lock-out guys that can get into a car though the window to unlock the car, etc?

Any locksmith should be able to make keys for locks that old. But no, you cant get a key made from the vin on a vehicle that old.

Drill out the locks and either replace them with aftermarket or NOS.  Tell the seller it will only cost $100 if he wants to sell the car, you have to see the parts.

If the interior handles are still on, it will take a couple tries with a coat hanger to be in.

The ignition will need to be drilled out to remove.

Yup, cannot do it by VIN.

If you could get an intact cylinder, some had the key code stamped/etched into it. Dealer could cross that code to key cuts and make a new key for that cylinder from that. I don't know how far back the code books go, but it you HAD to have original.... or get a replacement set pre-keyed as mentioned.

Are you wanting to get into the trunk? I dont know if they are different the Chevelles but with the Chevelle, you can get a trunk lock out and pop it open by going into the trunk from the back seat with the seat out. Take a bunch of 3/8 extensions and a ratchet and make it long enough with an, IIRC, 9/16 socket, and you can remove the fork that holds the lock in place and it will pop right out.
