What year Cobalt? I found this but not sure it would work for you.

The Fix.

I pulled the interior fuse cover from the passenger seat.
I located and pulled the 10A fuse for the Radio (labeled RDO).
I turned the car to the on position to verify the radio was disabled.
I turned the car back off and removed the keys.
I waited 30 seconds (I'm a Network Engineer, we always wait thirty seconds after unplugging something).
I put the fuse back into the correct spot.
I then held down the lock and unlock key on the keyfob at the same time till the locks on the doors activated.
I then tested the keyfob and made sure it was locking and unlocking the doors and activating the security system.
This process did reset my security settings on her car so I had to go through the reset process (holding in the information and reset key at the same time then following the prompts).

The keyfob now works, and I didn't have to pay some ******* dealer $50 for 15 seconds.

Ok. Just bought 2 NEW remote entry key fobs for my wifes Cobalt. Does anyone know how to program them ? I'm trying to save $$ not spend it if I don't have to. I looked in the owners manual no dice. $ 65.00 for a dealer to do it is a bit costly for 5 min worth of their time I think. Can someone help on this ??

I bought 2 new remotes when I had my HHR rebuilt too and I ended up taking them to the dealer, because they need to program them from a computer. Stillwater Motors did both of mine for $35 while I waited. The remote start feature even works !

Pretty sure that is going to be the case with this one. Need to use the Tech 2 and go in and program them.

According to the GM service manual it says it has to be done with a scan tool. But try Johns method just the same to see what happens.

This is something a dealer should do as a courtesy especially if you bought the car from them. Building good customer relationships doesn't seem to be a priority anymore.

Our niece just bought an '06 Escape from the local Ford dealer, and it only has one key (the one with the chip in it).  I tried to negotiate them giving her a free one since they are $80 at the local hardware store, and no deal.  Some customer service is just gone... banghead

Ok. I joined a Cobalt forum last night at 4 am. cuckoo But I wanted to know if there was a way to re program my 2 new keyless remotes. No help on there either. John I tried what you said and so Did Carmen. About a dozen times each. So i called Miller Chevy. DEAN talked to me and said if you have the olds ones I can fix them for $10.00 each. And you won't have to buy new ones. Or if you have NEW ones. I can re program them both for $ 29.99 and it only take 15 mins. hell I was out the door before he could hang uplaughing. So its over & done with. But I did meet some cool guys on the Cobalt site. And they helped me with  my blinker fluid. Her turn signal works but you can

t hear it. They told me the left speakers in blown then. So when I got back here from the dealer. I tried to move the volume to the left side!!  No Dice. No big deal radio still works and we always have jus the rear spealers on anyways. So we can talk up front to each other or on the phone. Pretty good day all around :)

So if the left speaker doesn't work then you don't have to listen to that damned door/key chime either ?? I should disconnect mine. I HATE that chime...angry

Yup, about $35 with the tax to get the remotes programmed.

NOPE $29.99 out the door...I too hate that damn door chime. I taking my door panel off the drivers side and DISCONNECTING the damn speaker. Damn thing is so loud !  Won't be in a little while. Count of that one! Its fine just with the rear speakers on anyways! That way we can talk and or be on the phone. Yup Miller chevy is OK in my book. Another dealer wanted $ 65.00 WTF ?

The speaker isn't blown if the chime works. It must be something with the signal going thru the radio that neither of them don't work...headscratch

Be careful removing the panel. The plastic snap clips like to break. Use a removal tool. I bought my 08 HHR crashed and had the panel off a dozen times before I got the power window to work in the replacement door...rolleyes

I welded in the shim strips on my roto today. They eliminated 80% of the movement (slop). It should be much more stable with the GTO on it this winter...cool

There is still good customer service out there.

Last week the auto up feature on my Mustangs driver window quit working. This is a big deal because after the door is shut the window goes up an additional inch to seal and when the door is opened the window immediately drops down to allow opening. I actually caused the problem by opening the driver’s door with the battery disconnected.

I sent an email to Apple Valley Fords service department asking if there was a reset procedure or if I need to bring the car in for service.  Within 30 minutes I received a voice mail from the service manager and 15 minutes later I received an email outlining the reset procedure.

So good service is still out there, ya just have to know where it is.
