All NCC Members,

You should have received the August NCC Newsletter in your email (Thanks Jeff S.!), and I'd like to get some feedback on the club newsletter in general.  So, I've posted a poll to get some feedback.

There are 3 voting options: 1.) I like it!  Keep doing it!, 2.) Keep doing it, but needs changes.  (Add your comments to the thread post please.), and 3.) I never read it.

If you pick # 2 Keep doing it, but needs changes, please add your comments to this thread so that we can make improvements.

Honestly, Jeff has done a great job with the formatting, but I've not had time to add much commentary each month, and we've struggled with getting members to sign up to enter their ride as a focus car each month.  So, we are struggling with what to put in it other than past/future events since some members don't frequent the forum that often (you know who you are... oldscool).

If any members out there would like to be the editor (with Jeff S.'s support on formatting the newsletter), please say so or send me a PM), as my free time only seems to get less and less these days with things going on at work.

So, please provide your feedback and let us know what you think.

As any of our past editors will confirm, being the "Editor" of the newsletter is one of the hardest and most thankless jobs in the Club!

I would like to see us getting back to having a featured "Member Ride" each month. Many of you out there post regular updates on your cars, builds, projects here on the Forum, so why not copy & paste the same material and send it to newsletter@northstarchevelles.com??

Or, send off some "Tips & Tricks", a blurb about the latest/coolest tool or "stuff" you just discovered and used, or even additions or changes to your shop or man-cave! Hey, it is not bragging... you are proud of your accomplishments, other people are interested, and we all appreciate everyone's input, skills, and suggestions here - that's what NCC is all about!

It is very difficult to find enough material to produce a 4 page newsletter... without your input it could just shrink down to a 1 page memo about Club business & status, or just die altogether! Take a look at our newsletter archives... get some ideas! We have been producing (IMO) some fabulous material, and some great writing. Lets keep it going!

I do read the electronic version and enjoy it.
Ya gotta pin Tim H down for an in-depth article about his '69 recreation. That has been a very intersting build...tiphat

I got nuthin' that nice to have in a newsletter. Maybe "someday".

 Mitch, send the 'Webmaster' an email to confirm your email address if you didn't get the newsletter.

Yeah, I'll work on Tim to get him to put something together.

We don't need 'complete' cars for the newsletter.  Cars apart, in progress, vintage sled projects (that's for the Hoffbug), anything goes.  Any of your projects would be great for the news letter!  beers

It was "in the mail" so to speak as I wrote this. I was at No. St. Paul for a while and now I see it came in right after I said I didn't have it...rolleyes

 Amen to that. It was taking my 6 plus hours a month just to do each newsletter back when I was doing them.

I know getting content to include was always the hardest. Even if it was such a simple thing as a new tool someone found, you can put a 1/3 page to it. There were times I really struggled finding things to include or pictures to help fill space.

I'm just thankful I don't have to write them anymore... it is pretty time-consuming, and a tough job that's easy to get burned-out on.

I don't think it is a must that it is done monthly. You maybe able to do it bi-monthly or quarterly just to cut down on the work load.

One of the things thats tough about the newsletter is that its always up to the one guy each year that offers to do it. It would be nice if we were able to gather a group of at least 3 guys that are willing to pitch in and work together for each issue. It takes the load off of just one person. Im thinking the trouble might be that a lot of guys dont know much about computers or know anything about newsletters or even how to do anything like that, so they are intimidated or just not intrested because they dont know about this sort of thing.

It would be cool if a member classifieds was brought back in the newsletter too. There are several guys in the club whom arent part of our forum that are looking for stuff or have stuff for sale and dont surf our forums on a regular basis, or even at all for that matter. It doesnt even have to be all Chevelle related, maybe a guy has tri-five stuff or old Chevy pickup parts they would like to sell. dunno

As one of the newest members, I've only met and talked to one other member (Jim Larson) of the NCC. In order to learn more about the club and its members, I've been reading through the old newsletters (as well as the old posts in the forum). I have enjoyed discovering a little about some of the members and club activities.

I can understand the comments made by those who've been involved in editing the newsletter. I belong to another car club and was the editor of the monthly newsletter for a number of months before some issues (mostly unrelated to the newsletter) arose that led me to quit the job. I can attest to the comments made about how time-consuming it can be. A monthly "feature" of our newsletter was a member profile where a member was interviewed. It was done by a series of email exchanges rather than a "sit down" session since I often didn't think of all the things that could be addressed until I started working on the article. Also, email made it unnecessary to actually meet up with the person. Of course, it made more work for me to write the articles myself rather than hoping that someone would be willing to submit something of their own. In the articles, the members discussed what got them interested in cars along with comments about cars they've owned (and/or currently own). If the member was willing, the article might also include information about other interests, their family, employment or other more personal things. "My Rear View Mirror" was started in an effort to get member contributions about events from their past that they would be willing to share with others. To get the idea started, I wrote about "My Summer of 1969" when I spent about six weeks in southern California going to the drag races at Orange County International Raceway, Lions Dragstrip and Irwindale Raceway. I had read about the racers and the tracks in Hot Rod and Car Craft but this was my chance to see it in person. One member wrote about what he did to prepare for and then take has car to the drag races. Others who have been involved in racing their car may not have found it as informative as those who had never done so. The article pointed out that there was much more involved than driving/trailering to the track and stabbing the throttle after getting to the starting line.

My preference would be to see it continue on a monthly basis even though some months may not contain many pages. I also like the fact that the newsletter is posted on the website so that previous issues can be seen without saving the email version.

In addition to cudos to those who have worked on the newsletter, I would also commend the work done on the website and all of its components. All of this work done by members puts forward a professional appearance for those who find out about the NCC and then consider joining the club.

Most car or truck clubs I've been in had a News letter. Some are good some need work. But like someone has said on here. Its a Thankless job. YES I know I did that in one of the truck clubs I was in. I did it for two yrs. I did most of it on my job at G.M. I worked over nights and had some time to work on it a little every night. Like any job in any club. if your looking for that pat on the back your in the wrong end of things. Its sad but true. Unlees you've done it or even helped out on one. You don't know how much time it takes to make a good news letter. So if anyone has something to put in one shoot it to the guy doing it. it will help out. There's so many thing that you can put in a news leter. But it can become a full time job. And with family work & kids to take care of and your WIFE. It can become over powering at times. My Hat go off to anyone doing a New letter :)
