ARRRGGG! - Food Vendors!

Didn't happen to me even though I was close to you. I think the wall I was against kept most of it away.

That happened to me in Hastings the only time I parked in the center of downtown. Never again.

When I lived in Millinocket Maine we were adding on to a operating papermill. One night they had an upset that sent tar out the smokestack. The mill ended up paying for a lot of paint jobs. My truck was one of them.

Looked in the side mirror on the way home last night and knew I was in trouble, all speckled with grease.

I wonder if this may be enough concern to let the History Cruisers know. It might be worth thier attention to conssider move those vendors to an area thats not so close to a parking lot.

I did write them a note (with a link to this thread), and got a reply while I was on vacation....

We are sorry to hear that. But without the food vendors, we would not have a car show.

Huh ??????? Do the vendors pay for the show to go on ??? I don't see the car participants dropping off that much without all that food. A few vendors in one area, like Hastings, would be fine. Speaking of Hastings, they seem to be holding their own without grease carts all up and down the street.

Well heaven forbid they would ever think of moving a few vendors to a less offensive spot. Without us car owners, you wouldnt have a show either History Cruizers. Try not to take that for granted. Especially if car owners start complaining to the city, thats all you need.

Fortunately, most of the food carts aren't directly next to the cars, they're on the sidewalk areas but that's where we're parked so we picked up the overspray.

While it's good to bring any problems to their attention, we should try to remember we are "guests" of the History Cruisers, that they're giving us a venue to meet and promote the club, and try not to be "those guys who complain about how the show is run" so we will be welcome back to be the host club again next year.

I agree with almost everyone on this one. If someone feels strongly about the issue I would think the best corse of action would be to talk to several of the History Cruisers and there are several that would have a sympathetic ear. The issue should be brought up at one of the HC meetings and see what kind of compromise could be done. It is my reccollection that each of the vendors pays an annual of fee of somewhere between $300 & $600. I don't recall the amount. These funds certainly help in maintaining the show, especially in light of the attitude of some of the city officials view on the show. I would think the HC would be willing to compromise in keeping the vendors away from the show cars without putting them out of reach of customers. As always the approach and who is approached is the key to getting a positive outcome.

With that said, I do think it was a pretty cheesy response you got. They could have at least done a dance and said they would look into it.

I also agree with Derek, and it's not really something to whine about, and I/we don't know what the arrangements are between the Cruzers, the City, and vendor spaces.... BUT...

I wanted to point out to the "management" that they have 10's of thousands of dollars of paint & upholstery getting "misted" with cooking grease, and some of the vendors are prime candidates for an America's Funniest (DISASTROUS) Home Video season winner. (If they don't want a car show, wait until a grease-coated EZ-Up goes off like the Hindenburg and floats flaming napalm over the sidewalk!)

In my personal opinion I was expecting a little more concern, and some indication of a possible correction or remedy in the reply.

I didnt think of it that way either. In the end, its nothing more then a good washing and if you wax regularly, its even less of a hassle. Although, thier response does seem to just blow off the issue, if you want to call it that.

The HC offer a nice opportunity for car guys to get together. But they are doing it for $$. And a opporturnity for the vendors to make $$.

John deserved a better responce!!! Venders should be moved away from the cars. NIAOB's

i am happy we have a spot to go with the old cars. there isn't much room with all that goes on. put one of those history cruiser shirts on and you step into a different world. i know a few who have done it. people are mad at everything. they don't get there parking spot they want, the music is to load i came for the cars. the generators for the venders are to load. then you get the people that live there they think it sucks all together(most of them). to many dogs, litter. i don't think its that easy getting a town to do this and there is a cost. most of the club goes one night maybe two gets special parking to boot. leave it alone. anybody ask tony his opinion. he ask them for club night. i think you guys are wrong if you think people around there are just dying for you to show up with your cars. just my opinion.

I'll contribute this last editorial, then let it go... and let it be known these are my opinions/observations.

- “We are sorry to hear that. But without the food vendors, we would not have a car show" is NOT an adequate response from the organizers of the event. I'm quite certain that I'm not the only participant that has a complaint about their car being COVERED in GREASE. (I had to clean the windshield before I could see to drive home!!)
- It's obvious that the Fire Marshall hasn't been around lately - I witnessed more than a few "flare-up's" of the vendor right near Neumann's - and they were just inches away from a disaster.
- HC... This is a CAR show, not a "Best Mini-Donut cook-off" event. The food vendors offer a CONVENIENCE to the spectators, they are NOT the primary reason for attending.

(I'd bet that the established, rent/tax/wage paying/own the building businesses that offer food would LOVE the business being taken away by the Friday night trailer-draggers.)

That said, I will not be participating in this annual event or show in the future unless changes are made - specifically moving the food vendors to a side-street, parking lot, or alleyway that is away from the showcars.

Some years ago My friend Bob and I thought we were beating the system by parking in some guys backyard grass field on the back side of the Jefferson Wi swap meet.. After walking around all day we came back to find the car completely covered in grease and ash.. Turns out were were parked right below the big burger and Brat tent.. I mean this was hideous grease! we tried to wipe it off with a paper towel and some windshield wash and it just smeared... In the end it was like polishing mags just to see out of the front window.. When Bob went up to show the burger people the rag over the fence.. The answer was basically "tough Sheet"....

Any time we take our cars out in public we risk accidents on the way and any number of things that could happen at the show... You might notice Im too nervous to stray very far from mine...
Over the years at car shows ( not NSP specifically)... Ive seen kids on bikes with no handlegrips.. strollers hitting cars, people opening doors and hoods without permission. people dropping pop and beer cans on painted surfaces. people leaning up against cars with riveted jeans. people parking their POS next to a nice car and winging the doors open.. etc, etc....
The thought did occur to me that perhaps we may have outgrown the club of the night parking spot...
Ive continued to ask for it because not everyone can seem to get there on time and there has been trouble with people parking early before... I guess I dont go up there enough to know all of the nuances on the parking but felt it wasnt something I wanted the club to be tagged with if someone bitched....
I checked my car and yes i did have some burger grease on it.... I dont think I got it as bad a John though... The food vendors appear to be a big part of the funding for the show.. So Im guessing they will always have the upper hand... Too bad we couldnt get that country creamery ice cream place to swap with the burger vendor. ;-)

Very well said. If John got a good amount of grease on his car. I can only imagine Bryan's friend with that 66 got it pretty good too. They were maybe 10 feet away from his car.

Ill drop it too, but I do think we should send them a respectable message that the NCC will no longer be attending as a host club to History Cruizers show anymore until they start taking complaints like this seriously. That is if it ends up being the ultimate decision the club makes.

That's an extreme position to take IMO Chris, and I say we all drop this and move on. It's the hazards of driving our cars to shows. End of story.

I beg to differ but you guys had your car(s) there, not me so if its not a big deal to you anymore. Im OK with that, I was a spectator anyways.
