Parts MAN... Found!!

Long story short - the new lower unit has the "later" style pitot tube for the speedometer. The boat has the "early" style connector/coupler coming out of the transom... No worky-worky, need new coupler!

angry (why it wasn't INCLUDED with the new lower unit...Censored)

This coupler clicks onto the shift-shaft bushing/seal assembly, and is included in the seal assembly "kit". I DON'T NEED THE WHOLE KIT - JUST THE COUPLER!!

I've spent the last two nights surfing & searching for just the coupler. I've also called about 6 mercruiser parts places around town and have gotten "NOPE, comes with the assembly, not available separately". The "assembly" is $30.

Then there's "MarineMax" in Rogers, who has PARTS MAN "Andy".

"Oh yeah, we've got those, it's a 22-860382, about $8"

He's my hero... whew

It's frustrating trying to get most parts people to look for anything out of the ordinary. It's a breath of fresh air to find one that knows thier products...tiphat
