I agree I have emailed them many times and no respounce for a couple weeks. So I imagine it is gone. But if anyone has a line on something similar LMK. I will look at the Fleet Farm one. Thanks Steve.

I basically posted it there for an example of what I am looking for or have been looking for.

Check the local welding shops, you need more then the welder itself. They can set you up with everything you need so you can start when you get home. On your tank yes it will cost more to lease, but when you have your own tank you have to wait for them to refill it. They don't fill tanks on Sat while you wait either, tanks are filled on a cascade systemso it takes time.

So far great information. Steve M thanks for the tip at Northern. There is one local to me I will check out. So far I am off next week and I will check Fleet Farm, Northern and Missippi welding.

On a side note I got JJ a cool welding helmet form my favorite China low quality Import store (Harbor Freight) a few months back. I will supprize him with it soon. The one he currenly uses is dark all the time and he like my instant on one. So he will like this. I really suck at welding maybe the MIG will be easier. The stick is kind of over kill for 95% of my applications. My friend tells me to get the 187 or 200 AMP MIG but i figure if I need that much I will stick it.

got this one for like $25-30 they had a 2 day sale.

Dang wish I had known about this an hour ago. I drove right by a HF and would've bought one !!!

I have a Miller Auto 180, 220 volt. I do weld on heavier material with my Pete and New Holland mowing tractor. Like you say, if it gets too heavy, I haul out the stick welder, but I'm actually pretty good with the stick too. You just need to go get some scrap metal and practice. Also the right rod is important. I use 6011 as an all around good rod. It doesn't work very well for overhead tho...lots of splatter when I tried to reinforce the Chevelle frame last winter. I cranked up the Mig and burned it on.

 

 

 I bought my auto darkening helmet from northern tool. It has a bigger viewing window then the harbor freight models. But it was $120 compared to the $30, but it was worth the investment.

 I own all the tanks for my stuff and they always exchange them, I have never had to wait to have them filled???

 Who do you fill through, I know Air Gas will not exchange their tank if it does not have their tag, same with other places.

The tag is a ring on the top welded on. Tanks need to be inspected every seven years or so at a cost of $75 bucks or so. The lease on my tanks covers the tumble and inspection of tanks so I never have to wait. I know years ago they had a big crack down on tanks due to theft and shops got real funny on tanks with no name or lease for refill.

local to me is Missippi welding and they quoted all kinds of tank prices. I think it was $135 liftime lease. or something. $20-22 fill for 40# tank.

Tanks are on a 7yr hydro schedule ?

Whatever you get, make sure it has the parts for MIG welding. Without a regulator & gas valve you are buying a "Wire Feed" welder that's READY for MIG.

I'm of the mindset to buy the best quality I can afford (or sometimes not afford if it hurts just a little bit). I'd stay away from the "no-name", or "rebranded" units from the discount houses. Trying to find parts, or even the "consumables" (like tips and wire) may be a challenge.

I've been using a Lincoln Weld-Pak 110 for about 10 years now, and have nothing but good things to say.

Flux core isnt going to give you a very good weld since it lacks a good shielding gas, but you can still weld with it.  Take the 50 dollars of cash you get back and buy a regulator for argon/co2 and a new roll the proper wire and you will be a happy camper.  

Chris R the one I posted see the URL. I believe has the correct needed gas regulator and hoses already. I think I would just need to get a tank that is why I posted what I found out about tanks locally. To see if it is inline what you guys use and get.
The Gas Valve regulator and hose come with the Hobart 140 welder.

Until the MIG process (or shielding gas process) was invented, ALL electric welding used a flux-clad or flux-core welding rod. The flux creates the barrier to prevent contamination of the weld field. All heavy gauge welding is STILL done with flux clad (stick) welding.

The bytch of it is that the flux residue needs to be removed and cleaned before the next pass or finishing - it has NO impact on the "quality" of weld.

And as always with a flux core or just any type of flux it must be removed to avoid contamination under paint. Can you say paint failure under that seem you spent so many hours on trying to get perfect. Yes it can be removed, and yes some guys have show winning jobs that they used flux core on and on and on. Just why even run the risk a paint failure at a welded portion even if it is in non cosmetic location.

I have a Hobart 120 Handler with a cart, darkening helmet and the regulators I will be selling as soon as I receive the new hose liner. I will sell it complete for $270. We bought a bigger one as we are building a new NASCAR race car and needed to step up the amps for the frame. The liner should be here this week. It works well and has never been any trouble it just needed a new hose liner.

Wife let the cat out of the bag she got the Hobart 140 with cart : ) for Christmass at Northern tool this past Friday. She lmk when I mentioned Tim H offer.
