Sunday Meet up at Stan's and the 'Head South MN/WI Cruise'

I needed to do a little Fall cruise trial run, so while talking to some other members, we decided to throw together a cruise on Sunday from my place (Rosemount) to Lake City on the MN side, then cross over the river and come back north on the WI side to Hastings and enjoy the antique stores, watch the boats on the river, etc.

If anyone's interested, be to my place by 10 A.M. Sunday morning, and we'll head out for a cruise south in time to hit Lake City for lunch.  Families and significant others are welcome!

Jim L.-If you are around Sunday, we could meet you somewhere in Lake City, then you could jump in with us for a drive.  Any lunch location suggestions would be helpful if you have any ideas.

At this point, I have commitments from Tom & Elizabeth, Chad & Shawna, and maybe Kevin & Angie.  Any others?

Hope to see you Sunday!  nod.gif

No way to cross the river at Lake City. You will need to continue south to Wabasha for a bridge. Not a lot farther and still a scenic drive.

I thought Kevin was going to be in IA this weekend ?

Sounds like a good time but my 3 days are already booked solid...rolleyes

There is an outdoor bar and grill in Pepin WI, right on the main road of the east side. Also a place on the river called the pickle factory. There is a place in Nelson WI, about 1/2 mile south out of your way, called the Nelson cheese factory, they also have kind of a gourmet cheese, wine, meats and ice cream. Not to much in Lake City or Wabasha. There is an Irish Pub in Wabasha on Main street; but not sure of their Sunday hours.

Also a good cafe in Stockholm WI across from the Amish Furniture store. Then kind of a Bar sandwich place in Maiden Rock. It should be a good cruise, ending with the Hasting show.

Darn, I will be in Willmar hunting geese, sound like a good time. I would take good country tar roads to Lake City. To Hampton, New Trier, Miesville, Welsch, Vasa, etc to Lake City. Check out google maps.

Thanks, Jim

Oh, Rachael says there is a new Brewery open in Reads Landing (only a couple of buildings in town, so you should be able to find it, a Big brick building) between Lake City and Wabasha, they also sever food; but don't know what.

Don't let Kevin drive his Mustang

Mitch, here's the route: Labor Day Cruise

I shouldn't have said we will cross over at Lake City.  We will backtrack a little and then cross over at 61 and WI Hwy 35.

Not sure on Kevin, if he's back from Iowa they may join in.  And he WILL drive his Elky if they join us!

Thanks Jim.  All great ideas for lunch!  We may have to go to Wabasha and cross over there.  That sounds nice.  Depends on how much our ears can stand after listening to the loud exhaust that long!  rolleyes

Much more scenic and less, less traffic, if you go Meisville, Vasa, Goodhue, Lake City, Reads Landing, Wabasha, Nelson, Pepin, Sockholm, Maiden Rock, then Bay City.

Meisville-Red Wing- Lake City on hwy 61 has a lot of traffic.  You  have good tar country roads on the route above.  Check it out.  Ear Plugs are Cheap.

Thanks Jim!  Now we're going to have to go old skool and dig out a map instead of relying on GPS... oldscool laughing

Loren, I was hoping you and Lisa would be able to join in!  I'm guessing it will be more miles from your house to mine than for the entire cruise!

Sheryl & I will also be coming along - we'll have to boogie for home (from Hastings) around 3pm though... and I'm on call.

You can still use the GPS, just plug in the additional towns as waypoints, or stops and it should route you thru them.

If anyone needed any more indication of how great the club participation has been this year, the fall cruise "trial run" is bigger than most of our past "fall cruises"!

You guys are buggin' me. The weather looks to be good. I'd like to go on this as the fall cruise usually falls on a weekend I already have other commitments for. I got 4 tires swapped out on the Pete and 1 on the trailer along with greasing and a little washing, so that's ready for work again on Tuesday. I'm supposed to finally build a raised shrub bed by the garage over the next 2 days, as the materials and plants have been sitting here for 4 months now. I'll talk to the better half tonght and see if I can get away for a while and join in....hyper

Man this is killing me. I make a run like that for the Flood Run on the bike. If we weren't going to the Fair we would join you.

We're going to do another run in Oct.  This is the 'trial'.  I'm sure we will tweak it after the drive tomorrow.

This just kind of fell into place somehow for this weekend.  Wasn't sure if it was going to be 3 cars, or more...  Glad it's working out for some, but hopefully Oct. will work for others.  Still determining the date on that for Oct.

No bride, she has to retrieve our son sometime in the morning from a sleepover. She's gonna let me off the chain to go...nana

I'm gonna look up the back road I took from Red Wing to Lake City last year. It's all rolling, curvy county road.

Found it.

In downtown Red Wing, go south on Highway 58 a few miles to County Rd 5. Go left (south) and it winds all the way to the north end of Lake City and dumps out right on Hwy 61. Very few houses or cars and beautiful scenery with many curves and hills...nana

Might I suggest a minor alteration to the above map/plan?

Extend the run from Lake City a few miles to Wabasha. Make a stop at "Slippery's Bar" (Grumpy Old Men fame) for refreshments/lunch. We can cross to the WI side in Wabasha and continue the run back up to Bay City without backtracking...

This would add Pepin, Stockholm, and Maiden Rock WI to the run, which are really cool little towns.

We can discuss at the 'drivers meeting' before we leave.  razz

John, we were trying to minimize our time  going south so that you could get back home around the time that you needed, but we are flexible with the route.

Mitch, you going to make it?  If so, are you coming to my house or try to meet up with us somewhere?  I'll email you the route if you PM me your email address.

Sounds like you guys had a good trip.  The Goodhue County 5 is the way I go to Red Wing all the time.  Its a good drive.

You might consider the Mieseville, Welch, Vasa, Red Wing route, if you do this another time.  Lots of senery, curves, and valley driving.

I would suggest that too, instead of running 52 all the way to Cannon Falls. More of what people want on a cruise.
