It sure is quiet on here for ANOTHER rain day. What's everybody doing ?

I would think Back to the 50's was a wash today.

We are getting ready for our BWCA trip and hoping it doesn't rain the whole time we are up there too. Might be a very short trip if that happens. 3 days away from "Summer" and I'm still waiting for Spring...angry

Back to the 50's wasnt quite a wash. It really only rained hard for about 20 minutes. I had just finished running into Ian, and went into one of the vendor buildings and looked out the doorway and it was pouring. After it let up, walking around wasnt a big deal but the rain what just enough of a sprinkle and be a real neusance though. But I still had fun. But you really nailed it. I am really sick of this rain as well and I have no idea why mother nature has been taking things out on us this season. No rain during the week when everyone is working but we sure get it when the weekend comes. This makes it literally 5 shows this season for me and 5 expierences of bad weather of some kind. I cant remember ever having so many bad weather car shows in one season since I have been into cars. Its really getting old big time.

Hopefully tomorrow is better. Planning to meet up with Brad in the morning and wonder the swap meet.

On a different note. At least I didnt have to gulp down gallons of water to stay hydrated and spread on a layer of sunblock to prevent sunburn today. It was actually quite comfortable even walking in the light rain.

Ian by the way has been expierencing computer problems thus why he hasnt been around in a while)

15 miles due West seems to have been quite different than us. We had many periods of heavy/moderate rain all day and accumulated over an inch. The roads never dried after about 11:30 am.

Had 4/10" in Eagan yesterday, but it stayed wet all day. Did the Farmington Dew Days cruise and show Friday with Gearlube; his Camaro is looking good.

Well, we left Sunday morning to go to the Boundary Waters. We were SUPPOSED to come home yesterday but were held prisoner on an island in lake Saganaga until this morning by high winds that were producing 3 foot waves with white caps. I wasn't willing to risk getting swamped or capsized by the waves and endanger my entire family, so we stayed put in our tent for 2 days while the wind howled and the rain fell. I had to tie the front of the tent with 3 ropes to a tree to keep it from being lifted and blown over. The relative "fun" we had on Monday getting to a camp site and catching 3 small mouth bass for dinner were quickly out weighed with the stress of Tuesday and Wednesday. We only had enough food packed to last thru lunch on Wednesday so we started rationing Tuesday morning when it became apparent that we weren't leaving until the wind died down. We got back to the outfitters at 10:30 this morning and drove in rain the entire distance from the end of the Gunflint trail home. I'm REALLY sick of this rain...angry

Sorry about the trip being "ruined"... but as they say "it builds character". bs

As a kid in the Scouts, we were on a weekend winter camp-out in central IL. Come Sunday morning we woke up to having the tent roofs 2" from our faces. A freak storm had dumped nearly 24" of snow overnight. Being Sunday, The only food we had left was cold break-camp-get-out-of-here breakfast, and some leftovers - for 20 people.

We were stuck in there for 3 days - it took that long for the Hwy. Dept. to dig out the goat-trail of a road back into the Camp.

(Luckily for us the Park Ranger came by on a snowmobile later in the morning. He took a copy of the roster and called everyone's family, then delivered supplies later in the day!) whew

There was a group of scouts from WI that went in the same day we did. The cars were still there today. They probably planned to stay longer anyway, but the weather certainly must have put a damper on their activities too.

It sucks camping in bad weather. I remember canoeing with a fellow boy scout back in the day and there was a really bad looking storm that started approaching out of nowhere, fast. The both of us were stuck on the other side of the lake and we both knew there was no way possible we could make it back to the camp on the other side of the lake. Good thing we were on the side of the family camp that family members of scounts get to enjoy. We went in to family camp and ran into some parents of other fellow scouts, my family or his didnt come up this time. We were able to get what amounted to about a 20 minute ride by vehicle back to our campsite.

The storm that came through trashed our campsites real good and we did our best to tie up the canoe on the opposite shore as best as we could. It still ended up floating in the middle of the lake upside down when some other scout campers found it. The life jackets we left with the canoe were long gone and never found.

I also remember a time when we were camping in the boundry waters and the day we were scheduled to return, it rained all day. I didnt have anything to cover up with and was soaked the several hours canoe trip on the way back. It wasnt like we had quick access to anything better then the rain gear we all had on. A lot of us caught minor cases of hypothermia that day and I honestly thought for a bit, I wasnt going to make it back home. I was only about 12 or 13 years old. I kind of lost intrest in getting that deep into the boundry waters since then.

I've been therough there a couple times too, pretty tough to portage in a hail storm unless you're the canoe guy and had ear plugs. When stuff like that happens I just keep thinking "this will make a great story for down the road when we're all just hanging out."
