200-4R is in, 12 bolt? Not so much?

Well decided to tackle the 200-4R swap and 12 bolt posi swap today.  Had the TH350 out and 2004R bolted in within 1 1/2 to 2 hours, went smooth.  Still have to hook up the TV cable, and convert the shifter to the Overdrive, plate and adjust the shifter cable.

Still motivated I went after the 12bolt, everything went fairly smooth to get the 10 bolt out, then put the 12 bolt into position and started installing the control arms, lower first, then on too the adjustable uppers (Hotchkis, set I bought from Scott P.) and found out that the upper adjustables are too long, even adjusted to their shortest length?  No fault but my own, I believe Derrick warned they may not work, but thinking they were adjustable, thought I would be OK.  It looks like I will be ordering a set of uppers, so may be later this week before I am able to take it for a spin.  I got it all ready for the uppers when they arrive, transferred brakes, etc.

Tomorrow I will finish the TV cable hook up and shifter adjustment.


Still feel like I accomplished a lot today, so not too disappointed, other than the extra $$ I will have to shell out for the uppers?  You have to expect some obstactles when changing out major items like these.

I know the uppers on the 65-67 are longer than the 68 and up, maybe by about 2" . Were the ones you got from Scott for 65-67?

They were in his wagon, so yes. I didn't realize there was that much of a difference? Oh well live and learn?

Yeah, I don't think you'd have much trouble re-selling them to another member. I'll take a second row seat to Jim. I'm back to work now and waiting for my first check on Tuesday....

I am not sure, these are hardly used, I know the new ones are $340.  I am not looking to make money on these, just come out Ok with the purchase of the new ones?  Is $200 reasonable?

Thanks for the offer, I was feeling motivated on Sunday, and made really good progress.  It is all ready for the new control arms and I should have it back together tomorrow night.

I haven't resolved that yet? I will take pictures of what I come up with. Did you stay with your stock cross member or did you go with aftermarket? I was able to just move my stock one back to a different set of holes in the frame.

Don't over complicate it. All you need to do is find another hole in the cross member or frame and put the wire hook piece that holds the cable tight in it. If you can't find a hole, I can crawl under mine and look where I put it.

12 bolt is in, now I found that I do not have the clamps for the u-joint at the differential?  My 10 bolt had the horseshoe style with the threaded ends that slipped through and nuts tightened on the back side.  The 12 bolt needs a clamp that bolts thread through to hold in place?  Anyone know where I can find them? Help!

Have you test fitted the u-joint yet ? Some of the 12 bolts have a different size cap and you need a conversion joint too.

What did Dashboard have for you ? I have 1 strap and the 4 bolts. I don't think I have another strap, as I used one on my 12 bolt a couple weeks ago. If you don't come up with 2, I can look tomorrow night for another strap.

The u-joint caps fit inside the lugs on the yoke, right ? not on top of the little lug ? Just trying to prevent another oops once you have the straps. I was just down this road with my 12 bolt swap and it took a week to track down the correct u-joint for it to all fit right.Very frustrating...

Yes the caps fit inside the little lugs, so I think I am OK there.  Dashboard suggested I contact Jamie, who is less than a mile from my place.  I called him, and plan on stopping buy to borrow a set from him to get me going.  Once I receive my set I ordered I will give his back.  Found a place on the internet, Denny's Driveshafts? He has the straps and bolts for $7.95 a set.

Yup, I hear Jamie has about everything up there. Glad you were able to get it worked out.

That's cool that the u-joint fits the yoke. Often times they don't and it's a real pain .

With the help of Jamie, I was able to borrow the u-joint straps I needed, and get everything together last night.  Today, (this afternoon) I will be working on getting the adjustment correct for the TV cable, and if all goes well should be complete with the conversion nana.  Still have to work on the parking brake, as the cable runs very close to the front driveshaft u-joint and the h-pipe on the exhaust?

I don't want to curse "Gloom & Doom" on your parade, but the TV cable adjustment is a VERY CRITICAL item... If it's not right, you will DESTROY the transmission in about 10 minutes.

If you've got any doubts, contact "Pushrod" Craig, or Stan - they've recently completed 200R4 swaps.
