Putting my 350 in a 307 car

reminded me that the engine mounts/frame perches are different! Too bad I remembered that as I was trying to set the engine down. It looks like the easiest option is to just get new 307 mounts? The frame perches look to be a serious b1tch to get out, I got one bolt out and maybe another one but those bottom 2 look to be impossible!

I am not opposed to buying new ones and putting them in but are the 307 engine mounts weaker?

I don't think the 307 rubber mounts are the locking style. If you buy aftermarket urethane mounts, they should hold, but use a urethane trans mount too so you don't crack another case.

I looked this up not to long ago.  64-67 BB and SB stands were different because of a saftey lock on the BB. 68-72 BB & SB were the same except for the 307 that was wider and taller than the others. But the motor mounts were different also so they net out the same height.  From what I read it doesn't matter which you run as long as you have the matching motor mount.  I still have 307 frame stands in my car and used energy suspension 307 motor mounts with my last 350 and will reuse them with my LS1.

Now this just goes to show that you never know everything about Chevelles!  I've swapped many 350's to BBC's, and never even thought about this.  I had a 307 in my first car ('71 Malibu) and didn't even realize the motor mounts were different.

When I pulled the 307 out both motor mounts fell apart so that thing was just sitting in there. I did find stock replacement mounts for a 307 but I should probably try to upgrade them a bit.

Cant you get the frame mounts from your old car and use new mounts for the engine side?

I could if I was in the mood for a serious frustration. I picked up stock 307 motor mounts today for $6 each and now the engine is sitting where it is suppose to. I am inclined to put a chain on the drivers side just in case.

So the engine is in then? If not, its better to use good eurothane mounts then try to replace them when they break.

Yes, the engine is in with the 307 mounts and I bought a new mount for the trans while I was at it.

The chain is an absolute must with those non-locking rubber mounts.
