Looking to buy or borrow a Snell 2000 or newer helmet to use at Rock Falls on the club race day.

I have a small head (no jokes about it being due to a lack of hair either please...) so would probably need a Small in size.

Let me know if you've got one.

Thanks.

Just go buy a racequip for a buck and a half.. Its SA2010 rated.. and should be good for years to come.

GEEZ Stan, I don't think I'd go around admitting that, but hey, good for you. At least you're owning up to it.emote.img?ID=15283

Speedway has FULL face helmets for $140. However they are SA05 but will still be good for at least another 5 years.

Personally I wouldn't use anything but a full face, but that's just me.
Another thing. I've found helmets (all brands) to run a little on the small side. RCI's chart says I should have a size large but it was too tight. I had to go with an extra large. (and yes, I have a big head)

Just buy one. I have this model. It is snell and I wear it at Rock Falls.

It's a HJC CL-31 model.  The open face is much nicer.

Thanks Winston.  That looks like a good deal.

Since you said you've used it at Rock Falls, I'm guessing the 'Snell & DOT Approved' is adequate?  The ad doesn't specify which Snell rating it is approved to.

Maybe Tony H. knows.

  • Constructed of lightweight injection molded polycarbonate
  • Two piece channeled dual density expanded poly-styrene liner for shock absorption and direct channeling air flow
  • Channeled adjustable forehead vents with venturi rear exhaust vents create a flow-through ventilation system
  • Comfortable plush brushed Nylon interior with sewn-in crown pad
  • Nylon strap retention band with double D-ring neatly secure chin strap
  • Comes with 3 snap black visor
  • Snell and D.O.T approved
  • Weight of medium helmet 2lb. 9oz.

I just went and looked at mine. It's SNELL 2005, so good to go for a long time.

Winston, thanks for checking the Snell rating.  Looks like I'll be placing an order soon!

Tony, it's just hard for me to justify spending $150-300 for a helmet I will use once or twice a year.  If I raced as much as you do, I'd definitely step up to a higher level.
