Got to drive my Convertible for the first time today, too bad I had to do it without a windshield?  Finally got it home today, couple weeks and off to get the interior put in and new top, and hopefully a couple of outings before I have to put it away for the winter.

Found out yesterday the the rear quarter window tracks I have are not correct.  There is a difference between the top mounting of the 2 door coupe and the convertibleno.  Now to try to find those is going to be a challenge?

Otherwise everything else seems to be going together OK, need new drivers door glass the bonehead who owned the car before me go welding slag on it, found passenger door window regulator, crank post was stripped out, little things to slow me down?

Enjoying just having it back though, get the windshield in and going to take it for another drivebiggrin.

Looks great Loren!  Another Chevelle working it's way away from the 'it's apart' club.

Are you doing the interior in black?

Now you can change your avatar pic to the red version instead of the primer version!  biggrin

Ray's Auto Body in Princeton, MN.  Decided to wait until after the interior is in to do the final buff on the paint, that way if there are any minor scratches in that process they can fix them up then.

Update on status:

Should have back home on Friday or Monday.  They have finished the paint work, (and repaint work from my trunk lid popping open on the hoist and shattering two of my flourescent bulbs, gouging the paint).  They will be wet sanding and buffing this week and finishing minor detailing.

Then back to my garage for the installation of the grill, re-install of the power top pump(had to pull because it leaked), chrome, emblems, etc.  Then off to "Convertible Tops & Interiors by Fred" to install new top and finish out the interior!

Once that is done, the TH350 to 200-4R swap, 10bolt to 12bolt, 3.73 posi swap and I am ready to hit the road in May.  I will beat that counter some way, some how!

Post some pics when you get it back next week.

I looked at the pic in your first post and can't remember what that green stuff is after 5 solid months of winter...  emote.img?ID=15264

Your right.  I cannot wait.  Been over two years in the process.  I bought it February 9, 2009.

Just saw this post and it's looking great...

My only concern was the tail light housing being red inside. Hoping they were painted back to silver before the lenses were installed. That will make the lights much brighter.

Looks great Loren. You had a question recently regarding color selection for assorted parts, thought this might help.  Let me know if it does.

Kevin, perfect timing with the engine bay stuff I'm doing!

Although, instead of the semi-gloss, I tend to use satin instead.  I prefer the satin look to the 'shinyness' of semi-gloss.

I'm with ya on the satin. I even use satin clear. It gives just the right amount of "sheen" to me.

I am hauling it tomorrow to get the new top and interior finished out. Should have it back in about 2 weeks. Once its back, then I will do the 2004R swap, 12-bolt 3.73 posi swap, and take it in for alignment and I should be ready to exit the car's apart club. Do I need an inspection, provide pictures, what is the requirement to be officially out of the "Cars Apart Club"?

To get out of the CAC club, I think you need to give at least 5 NCC members rides on the first 72 degree Sat. afternoon with the top down!

I do not see the gargage door opener for at least another month.

If you do not know what the "Official Garage Door Opener" is then here is the explanation.

Official Garage Door Opener is the first 70 degree Friday of the year that allows the the opening of the Garage Door with a adult beverage and lawn chair for relaxation. Additionally BBQ grills, petrol powered cylinders started, tuned, washed, and waxed are considered typical hobby items to discuss with friends over food and beverages.

Do not be confused the act of just opening a garage door to stand and BS with a friend or neighbor is not the official opener until the Mayor Joe Souchery calls it or an appointed deputy Mayor.

Good thing the "wash and wax" isn't required. I "wax" my cars with scotch bright to get the winters oxidation off...
