Any Tips for cleaning disc backing plate

Also the caliper brackets.  Plates look gold with orginal plating but some paint.  The other side is pretty much brace dust, same for brackets.  I washer and scrubbed with dawn soap.  I am thinking about 3m stripper for the paint and then oven cleaner and then 409.  But I don’t want to disrupt the original plating.  Any thoughts or have you found a good approach?

If there was a company near lake city and at a reasonable cost, yes.  Probably going to media blast and 2k prime then paint, aluminum and cad.

The dust plates should be zink coated and may clean up by wiping with paint thinner. I think stripper would attack the zink. Test the thinner in a small area. Your results may differ... etc., etc...

It appears the dust plates/backing plates are zinc plated. I first tried brake cleaner, not very helpful.  Then I tried mineral spirits,  maybe soak for a day or two,  what I did did not work.  The engine side is sprayed with paint.  That why I was thinking paint stripper.  I am trying some Oven Cleaner on the brackets.  On the spindles, I have them almost ready to paint, Cast Iron paint.   I have a friend with a cabinet I can use to blast the cast iron parts.  But he just build a new shop and won’t have it ready until some time in Jan. I think I will blast the backing plates, but wanted them clean to keep his media clean, free of  dirt and grease, I’ll be happy when all this cleaning is done.

 

Another wish list of $200 in parts needed.
