Electricity to the new car barn

After needing a flashlight to get my truck out of the barn to plow during the last 3 winters, I decided I wanted power back there. I ran power into the new yard equipment shed behind the shop and intended to trench a cable from there to the back barn in August. That got delayed with 2 engine swaps in the Impala and delivering it to it's new owner. I got a hernia putting the hood back on the Impala the last day of August, and had surgery on Sept 15th, so I have been down for any physically demanding work since Sept. This past Saturday, I rented a Toro chain trencher and got the trench dug. My wife then helped me roll out the cable, which was still too heavy for me to lift safely, and we got that and a locating wire, dropped in and half of the trench back filled. On Sunday, we got another 3rd filled, but we were beat from a long day Sat and I was quite sore, so we took it a little slower.

That's 130 ft of trench, 2ft deep.

We then back filled 12", compacted the dirt and layed  the warning tape in.

It was just too danged cold to work out in that wind today, so it will get done in the next couple days, with warmer weather. We can do that, since we are both retired and home every day..cool

Sorry about the medical delay, take it easy on the mend it will pay off.

Sorry about the hernia. Glad you are getting some work done anyway.
My grandson is coming this Sunday to work on my '64, so I will finally see some progress.

Must be the season...I  didn't do the work, but last Friday the electrician trenched from the house to Jr's Garage 3.0 with a Toro Dingo. Popped the chain off twice because of all the softball and football sized rocks. Looks like you had pretty good dirt to work with. 

 

He only hit 3 irrigation pipes and one control bundle. clonk

The rental center in River Falls told me the Dingo wasn't going to get the job done, because it's too small for the gravel in this area. The one I rented is very automated too, and the chain would quit turning when it felt too much resistance from the boulders getting jammed in the mechanism. The chain is much bigger and aggressive than the Dingo too. I worked the heck out of it for 2 hours, and it got the job done without any issues.
Glad you got yours in too. I still need to tie the cable in on both ends, but it's been too cold to want to do that. Looks like Friday is the day here.

Utilities were located yesterday at my house for some electrical trenching from house to shop as well. :)

We're putting a 60 solar panel 19kw system on the roof of the shop, with the inverters and a battery backup in the house.
