Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation...

I've looked at them, but don't care for the shock at my Chiropractors, so never got one.
I prefer the ultrasound stimulation....MUCH more relaxing than getting shocked.

Depends on the strength. I have used the cheap ones and a commercial unit. Night and day difference. Either way it is temporary bandaid. Find a good neurosugeon, get some current imaging and find out what is causing your problem. I can say this because after suffering for near 25 years and using every temporary relief known to man, I finally had surgery and got amazing relief. Your situation may not require surgery but you will know exactly what is causing your pain and the best way to get relief. Don't try and self diagnose, you may be causing more issues than you are curing.

I used them when I was studying Athletic Training and again in my internship with eh Institute for Athletic Medicine. It was many many years ago, but was helpful for re-introducing muscle activity after surgery as well as pre-exhausting another muscle that would be preventing another from activating. It also worked well on spasming muscles as we would tire them out so they would stop contracting and we could then start stretches, range of motion recovery, etc.

This is a better option have used it and am trying to get my unit repaired. There is also a unit called Phoenix Wave that is about $5000-6000. The Arp Wave is about $20,000 or lease the unit for some unknown amount. You feel like a kid after use of these machines.
The first time I tried one out was after my second rotator cuff surgery. I had full range of motion at the end of the session one week after surgery THAT IS UNHEARED OF!
