One last ride?

Contemplating taking the ‘68 out for one last cruise.  It’s supposed to be 70 again today.  Got the Christmas lights up yesterday.  Hopefully errands and other stuff doesn’t get in the way.

I wanted to, but my rear main seal started leaking pretty bad and I don't want to get oil on the clutch.

Got lot of miles in the past several days, think yesterday may be the end of the line for 2020!rolleyes

I could hear performance cars being driven "enthusiastically" all weekend. I considered giving my 64 a test drive, but laziness took over.

Now I have to wait until spring.

 Me too, I left at noon Sunday and drove to Chicago and bought a better hood for my '67 Camaro. This was a bonus stop that came about at the last minute. The original objective was Red Lion, PA for a MUCH better hood for the '66 Chevelle SS...nana

I drove all night and was in Red Lion at 9am Monday for the hood. I am now on the Supercar Registry and that is how I came to find out about the 2 hoods. Another member on that site asked if I could stop off in Massillon, OH on my way back and pick up a slot car set he wanted to buy, but the seller refused to ship, so after I loaded the Chevelle hood, I headed to Massillon.  From Massillon, I got halfway back across Indiana and stopped for the night, as I was meeting the slot cat guy in Chicago at 11 am. No way I want to deal with Chicago commute traffic and it gave me a chance to catch up on some sleep. That meet went off without a hitch and I then proceeded North to Franklin, WI and dropped off both hoods at Restoration Specialists for chemical stripping, NOT acid, and they will then be dipped in EDP for complete coverage, inside and out, of the inner structure. I left Franklin at 12:45 and drove thru 2 monsoons going across WI and then the rain started freezing on the roads about 50 miles from home. I made it here OK at 5:45 pm, ahead of the snow.

2,267 miles in 54 hours and 5 stops....visions of the OTR days in the Pete/Kenworth danced in my head...laughing

Good thing it went well and there was no "Vanishing Point" towards the endrolleyes

Mitch, is there anyone closer that can do the dip and EDP?

How clean does the panel need to be before the dip? Does that take care of rust and old layers of paint both?

Also, curious what the cost is...

They are the only place I know of, or have heard of, around here. I see comments about another in IL, but I haven't looked into it. The chemical soak will remove all paint AND rust. All that is left is clean bare metal. Their website expired and the owner is trying to get his pictures back up, but is very busy. You can leave it like that, if you are going to paint it right away, to prevent rust. It does have a water soluble coating to prevent flash rust, but it won't last long. That process is $125 for a hood. The EDP submersion is the same cost, $125 for a hood. So another $250 per hood for me, but they will be protected like a factory, over the counter, replacement. The NOS fender I bought for my Camaro last year was stored inside and still looks like new. No surface rust at all.
