As most of you know, I am having some issues regarding the idle on the 66 I just bought a few weeks ago. Tired of sitting in the house recoving from the hernia surgery, so I decided to start the car and spray carb cleaner around the intake. If I spray enough in the area where the heads meet the intake just below where the throttle rod is on the carb the car either kills or starts to kill. This is an old performer intake that was put on the engine about 20 yrs ago. Is it likely a vacuum leak? Thinking I should either put a different carb on the engine that I know is good and seeing if the car runs the same. Or should I just removed the intake and re-install it and see what happens?
Have you checked the back of the carb for a missing plug. There is a port low in the back of the carb for ether PCV or power brakes, as they are connected elsewhere there should be a plug in that port.
