Thinking of getting rid of motor/tranny from my Chevelle. Ran just fine when I took it out, I had a rebuilt 71' 350/TH350 to put in. Does numbers matching really matter on a 72' Malibu? $500 sound right?

Used TH350's sell anywhere from $150 to $250 in my experience selling them on CL.  I sold one that had been gone through by Master Trans for $350.

Numbers matching trans on a stock '72 would only matter if the rest of the car was original and in very good condition IMO.

I appreciate it. It is motor and transmission. How much does a motor usually sell for or does a combo make a difference? Didn't figure # match would make a difference on this one just thought I'd ask the Chevelle gurus first.

I recently sold the tired 350 out of my Chevelle for $1000 complete carb to pan.  It did have the good camel hump heads and a $200 air gap and newer Holley carb on it though.

If yours is a stock/original 350 engine, I would think $250-400 depending on how many miles on it and if it was in good running condition and has been rotated now and then after it was pulled.

So...you're $500 estimate for the engine/trans combo is probably pretty close IMO.
