Now that we're on a mini-acreage (just under 1 acre), I'm looking to buy a utility trailer to haul landscaping materials and the garden tractor or motorcycle locally if needed. Anyone have any recommendations on size/type?
Budget = $1000 or less (Maybe I'm low?)
1500-2000 pound load capacity
I've got my eye on this one for $819, but open to other ideas:
It has been my experience that with the first trailer the rear gate/ramp is a huge wind sail and almost everything you load will not clear the top of the ramp without bottoming out. That model is more prone to extreme vibration than the second. My father in law has one and is on the second set of lights and a new fender lost to vibration.
The second is much better all around for the $.
The best advice on a utility trailer IMO is to beef up the budget and find a nice, used aluminum model. I attached a photo of a basic aluminum model. I am not sure on price but you can install stake pockets on this and have a much stronger, more versatile trailer.
There are many brands to choose from. Shop around.
I got a 5x8 from Northern. was something around $450-500. I had to weld on stake pockets and add the floor and sides but you can make the sides as tall as you want. I screwed the floor in from underneath. The sides are use a hasp and clevis pins at each corner so I can take them off independently when unloading. I also laid it out so the sides fit flat on the bed and the ends fit over the side verticals so it fits nicely together when collapsed.
