I don't believe there is one on a stock Corvette. I know there isn't one on a '70, and it isn't on a '72 wiring diagram. That car should have stainless shielding around the distributor and all the way to the spark plugs, so maybe someone added it to try to reduce static.

Just to clarify Larry this is a Chevelle. I've been helping with an unmolested 72 Chevelle getting it road worthy.

Looks very original with the OEM mfg. paint on the vacuum canister on the distributor.  thumbsup

Stan, the car is as if it just came out of time machine. One owner, piles of paperwork order sheet, build sheet... 402 four speed. Still has the Muncie shifter and linkage and I think that was one of the first things to go. The only thing I can see thats missing is the air pump.

We old people don't see the difference between vette and velle. So disregard what I said. What a find.

Actually that looks like a fusible link to me. Orange wire coming out the other side, what does the wire go to?

I'll agree with Chris... what appears to be (thickness) 10ga wire, with a "blob" thingie... smells like fusible link to me.
Does the car have any high-current accessories like power seats/windows?
