Actually, there are a lot of members that wont be attending this year due to other conflicts that we decided at the last meeting to forgo setting up as a club this year that and members are getting sick and tired of dealing with the rigamarole of setting up our spot the day before the show. I wouldnt let that stop you from signing up though, there are still some of us that are intending on going so someone im sure could bring you an application and get you fixed up at that time.

There is a link in the blue bar above with the 'Join Northstar Chevelle Club' link to the membership form.  Go to the form, print it off, and mail it in with a check and you are all set.

I had planned on driving up from KS for this, but will be overseas for business.  Sounds like this is breaking up anyway for the club to park together.  First time in at least 10 years that I can think of that not happening.  Too bad...

I have fond memoirs of cruising down 35E in the El Camino at 0230 on a cool morning then parking on Como Ave waiting for the gates to open. John D would have the Elky grill fired up making eggs, pancakes and coffee. Great times, great friends and wonderful memories.

I also remember Stan zip tying Barbie to my hood pole (B has the picture) and all the folks taking pictures of her. Buy the way, she still hangs out in my garage as a reminder of great times.

I will be inline by 230 again this year. Unless they enforce what they did at back to the 50's and not let anyone line up in the streets until 6am. I know they enforced this hardcore on Friday of the 50's.

Besides 68Chevelle and me, who is also planning on going?

I thought there was an earlier post asking this question, but I could not find it.

Thanks,

Normally we have a pretty good representation. This year is an odd thing.

This is a typical turnout. There's actually more to the left and a couple across the street to the right too.

I don't have anything running either, and if I did, I'd be going to Milwaukee...

I think everyone's a little "gun-shy" about the change, and if anyone else's summer is like mine - total crazy with family obligations and other things pressing than car events.

I wonder what the midway will be like?? The biggies aren't going to have two crews (one for each show), so what's going to be at the fairgrounds?

I had pre-registered and planned on attending, but I'm overseas on business through next week so won't be there.

Anyway, in the email I received yesterday on the event, Chris P is a celebrity in the email pics from winning last year's engine building competition!  Congrats again Chris P.!!!

Well, other than GM, Ford and Chevelle row missing it sure looked and sounded like Car Craft to me.

MOPAR alley was missing too.

Looked like every other year, but less rain and hotter.

Im glad to hear turnout was good... Id hate to lose an event like this even though it doesnt have "major" magazine coverage.... For some guys that was a big deal.. For most of us it wasnt.

I saw Jeff Smith formerly of Car Craft) today. most of the coverage for this show is going to be found online and faster than an October issue too. I actually think the coverage overall will be greater than before.

I saw some pics on Kurt E.'s FB page, and it looks like a strong turnout again.

Bryan, did Jeff S. mention how many registrations they had?  3000, 4000, etc.?

I went yesterday. I never heard any numbers, but I'd guess 3500-4000 cars, as it seemed to be somewhere around 75-80% of years past. Still pretty full, but not as crowded as before. The one thing I thought seemed "missing" was the constant parade of open-header big HP cars driving around. I don't know if it was the heat or what, but there just weren't as many cars making laps around the fairgrounds as years past. This also contributed to the "not crowded" feel...

The autocross course was much bigger, faster, and quite respectable compared to previous years. Looked like a fun course with some long acceleration zones to give some advantage to the cars with HP.

I talked to a guy with Gsta who helps run the show and he said Saturday at noon there were over 5800 cars.Sounds like cc in Wisconsin had some some poor number according to a couple vendors that had spots at both shows.

There were a LOT of great cars there yesterday. My only complaint would be not enough hours in a day. I never did find a pork chop on a stick though.

I stayed later then I usually do on Sunday this year and hung out for the awards at the end. They said attendance was actually up this year over last year. I did notice a lot of cars from Wisconsin and a few Illinios plates as well which I thought was cool.

Attendance looked the same to me but it definitely didnt look like the Milwaukee show had any effect. Still several national vendors in attendance. Was talking with Terry D and he was saying he also talked to someone that was in Milwaukee on Friday and said it was not very well attended. But thats a Friday and its the beginning of the show so who knows. The nice thing is the show seemed to go well for them and I agree, I would hate to see this show go away, its still the highlight show of the summer IMO.

The autocross was kind of a long walk but the setup was totally cool and much faster. My first impression was its a big improvement there but the guys that run the course year after year are better to give an opinion on that. Was pretty exciting to watch though.

My first time to the show as a participant.  Had a blast!  I was over by the Butterfly building with an old high school buddy.  There is a group of them that have parked over there for years, so I was able to join them.

Hank does your friend have the Ford wagon next to you? If so he always parks next to friends of mine at the 50's and he is his groups chef. Since he is a butcher they are always grilling good stuff that makes your mouth water!

My buddy has the black GTX.  I met the guy with the wagon and many of the other gang.  The group did say that he usually cooks something for them, but he did not at Nationals.

I was handing out club cards on Friday and came across a nice Chevelle with WI plates. I asked the guy why he wasn't in Milwaukee and he said the fairgrounds are a dump. I've heard that from several WI people familiar with the place and they were dumbfounded why CC moved the show there ???

Hank I've talked with your buddy too. He used to bring his Packard to the 50's but since his brother has been gone he brings his old truck he ended up with. Nice 58 Chev I believe. Last time i spoke with him was two years ago and asking him how he liked his new house. He was surprised I knew where he lived but the cars gave it away when the wife and I were at an open house across the street.

I got to thinking about the club not getting together this year (at least a few cars...), and really feel bad about it.  I can go back at least 10-15 years where the club had a presence at CC, and it was THE highlight of the year for us.  We always gained new members, talked to a lot of cool people about our cars and the club, and generally just had a great time hanging out together enjoying all aspects of the 'experience'.

As those of us that have been with the club for the past 10+ years know, even this club has had it's highs and lows and near implosions... but we always seemed to have enough people to step up and pull something together for CC.  I also realize 'life' happens, and not everyone can rearrange things to get to CC, but hopefully at least a few can work it out.

I'm not putting the current officers down by any means (many of us know it's not an easy job), but hopefully next year for CC if it returns or Street Machine Nationals II, we can put something together as a club and come back with a strong presence, assuming that's the direction the officers and membership want to take it (membership growth and a fun group social time).  I know I'm willing to drive 400 miles to join in the festivities, and would have driven up this year if I hadn't been overseas!  thumbsup

Just had to get this off my mind as even though I no longer live there I still want to see the club thrive, and I'm not looking for responses nor to cause any drama in the club.

Thanks for listening and letting me get it off my mind.

From what I heard from other clubs, people were there at noon to park in their place and wait for 3pm to put up tape. MANY of those spaces were still empty at 2pm on Friday and they were announcing over the PA system that anyone could move the cones/tape and park. It wasn't that crowded on Friday. Seems there should be room for the club to get an area next year.

I may be up for helping "camp out" next year on Thursday. This year snuck on me and I had other obligations.

If it is always the third weekend in July, maybe at Karl's in Jan we can get a notice on the web and people to mark their calendars.

Yup, its the 3rd weekend. Exactly a month after Back To The 50's. As a spectator I thought this show was a huge success personally. I did see a lot of spots roped off even in the middle of the day on Saturday but there was still plenty of other places to park though so it didn't appear to be a big deal.

Stan, dont let this bother you. Everyone that usually sets up had prior commitments and couldnt make it, that happens sometimes when you only have a limited amount of weekends in the summer. Weddings, family reunions, working weekends, it all ads up. There are other areas we could go next year that are still getting good "show traffic", if guys dont want to go through the hassle of dealing with other groups trying to negotiate whom gets what space.

One thing I saw pretty frequently was empty gallon milk **** filled with water and rope or caution tape strung through them. I think that could be another option just for the simplicity and space savings. I know part of the annual hassle is those giant cones Craig brings out. They work well and are hard to miss, but they guarantee someone needs an empty trunk (or truck) to take home.

I wouldn't worry, we'll get it all back together next year.
