I had the Malibu out for a Spring drive about 3 weeks ago one Saturday afternoon when it was about 65 degrees out, and ended up at Gearlube's place. When I left, I did what I thought was a nice burnout after he egged me on..., and the next day he tells me 'pretty good for one tire....'. I was disappointed as I know that the posi was working last summer when I did a couple of burnouts during one of the cruises we were in.
Anyhow, since I'm down south in KS now, I had a buddy drop the car off at Master Trans and had the trans guru John look at it. He and Chris P. talked it out since I had bought the rear end from Chris and it had a non-standard posi in it since it was a Buick/Olds 2 year only rear diff, and turns out the posi clutches were worn and the springs were set up on the loose side, so John replaced the clutches (of all things they are for Ford limited slip rear ends...), and tightened up the spring setup and now both tires are wearing evenly....
Thanks again to MT and Chris P. It's great having friends and businesses that support us and our cars!
I have a friend with a old Buick straight 8 with a Hydramatic/Dynaflow trans that is having some leaks etc. He is waiting for my lift to be open and was wondering if I knew anybody that could rebuild it. Not sure if John did them or if anybody else up there worked on them? Figure someone on here might know.
Who got the job of truing the tires by grinding the high spots off...
I asked John if he 'tested' out the posi before I picked it up, and he got a smirk on his face and said 'yes...'. Then he tells me he 'tested' it in the MT parking lot when a Rosemount cop drove by. Glad I don't drive it around there anymore!

If I needed a trany tomorrow, I'd build a wooden box for shipping and call John. He built three tranys for me, but more than that was the value of his counsel. When I was working with the drive line angle on the Elky after installing the five speed, he helped by doing nothing. We had the Elky on his rack taking measurements and he looked at me and said, "this looks good to me, lot's of people over think this stuff."

I forgot to add... John also solved my one and only pesky leak. He found that there was a little play in the tranny drive shaft yoke inside the trans which was dripping trans fluid after driving the car, so he installed a bushing and replaced the seal, and no leaking!
I also asked him if he saw any of my shadetree mechanic errors when it was up on the lift, and other than pointing out that I didn't have the front brake lines clocked correctly, it was all good. Felt good having a second of eyes on it for a quality check.
