Anybody happen to have the stock spring specs for a 70 ss 396 car. Need to get some replacement springs and they don't seem to list 396 just 454. Maybe they are the same but I don't know.

Detroit  These guys are suppose to have all the information.  Rate would depend on body style like 2dr sport coup or convert, transmission, w/wo ac, PS, standard or F41 suspension, and engine.  At least that is what I found when doing research on a 66.

I can't imagine the rate would be any different from a 402 to the 454.

For a stock replacement they normally only differentiate between big block and small block.

edit:  Scratch that.  Original Parts Group lists one spring for all '70 applications.  cuckoo

Ground Up shows 4 options.  Big & Small Block, with and w/o A/C.

Hope this works, go here, then go to page 24, GM shows about 30 different front springs used on the 70 Chevelle.

www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/Chevelle/1970-Chevrolet-Chevelle.pdf

^^^IT TAKES TIME TO LOAD^^^^

If the above doesn't work go to the GM Heritage Center, then Vehicle Information Kits, then Chevelle 1970, then pg 24

The data shows
Part number, Assy code, Cut off length, Wire dia, Total coils, Deflection rate, Height free and working with load.

Lot of good info on the site, hope it helps

That site has a wealth of information some previously unpublished. I would encourage guys to look up their car and print off the large amount of information available.

You used to be able to order a copy for your car and they would ship it to you for free, just had to supply the VIN. I have one for my car from them. Might still be able to. They called it a "restoration kit".

I received a restoration kit for the Elky from GM years ago however whats now available on line is far greater than the old resto kits; the 70 Chevelle is 160 pages. On a whim in 1984 I called the customer service number in the original owners manual and had a long conversation with a customer rep, he sent me a resto package. He also told me he was going to re-register my VIN in the GM system as a restored car, to this day I have no idea what that meant then or might mean today.
