Having lost a key and remote for over 6 months, it looks like I will have to buy a new replacement key at a minimum.
I can order one cut from GM for around $90; but looking for a less costly alternative. It's a new style of key that has to be side cut. Looks like you can get a key for around $25 on ebay delivered to you home. But having a hard time to find someone with a machine that can cut this type of key for a reasonable price. I would like to order two keys and have them both cut for under $50, so I would have less than $100 invested.
With my luck, I will find the remote and key in a pair of pants a couple of days after I get new keys. Remote can be found for around $50 or so; But then the dealership usually charges a programing fee. All this looks like another way for GM to make a few bucks. Thanks,
Jim I think this is one of those times when you just need to bite the bullet and do it. I paid $75 to have a spare key cut and programed for my pickup. It’s painful but the dealer option will ensure all the keys features will work, whatever they are. Do the government math. Have a new one cut for $90 then you’ll surely find the original you misplaced. Then, stay with me now, you’ll have the original key plus the spare that came with the truck, plus the new one you had made, so you’ll have three keys for $90 or $30 each. There, I think I just saved you $60. Good luck!

I'm not anywhere near close to you, and not worth the time or trip, but I can cut it. I have the correct machine at work. Keys do run about that much, you wouldn't save enough with your Northstar discount to make it worthwhile form me anyway.
keep calling around, most of your larger dealers might have the correct machine. It's a big investment, so smaller dealers are holding off and direct ordering replacements.
The remote programming needs to be done with a proper scan tool. Since you have a missing remote, it's best to erase all known remotes from the truck's system and start new. That way someone can't just push the button until they find the matching vehicle, especially since they would also have a matching key.

Thanks for the offer Bryan. I may just pick up a spare key to have around. Do you just need the vin or both the vin and a current key to cut a new key? I have been getting along on one key, so I may stay the path of a while.

I think I now know why the Marine's, a part of the Navy, have been so far over budget on the F35 platform.
Well I decided to order one from Red Wing Chev, parts guy said about $80. I bought a remote online for $50, so $130 to date.
Now cost to program the new remote X, plus maybe a new uncut Key for $25 plus the cost to cut (quoted $20 yesterday).
I guess you have to get an GM key or the locksmith guys won't cut the key. The aftermarket keys are suppose to ruin the blades in the machine, according to Cory at StellarKeysandRemotes.
