I just got my issue of the July newsletter. When I opened it, I noticed that the spacing was off one or 2 rows from when I created it. This made some info jump to the next page which in turn changed the spacing on that page which added on one final page which was only a tiny piece.

I use Microsoft Word which came on my computer. I'm computer literate enough to do what I need to but that's about it. I'm willing to change programs if there's a free one out there.

Currently I create the newsletter then email it to JohnD who converts it to a .pdf and sends it out. I've seen it happen occasionally before too, I think it happens in the conversion process?

 

any help?

You could try a product called Libre Office. Its an open sourced freeware program that is very similar to the expensive Microsoft Office and includes a similar version of MS's Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. Ive never tried it personally but comparison reviews look very positive for an open sourced software that is free compared to the expensive Microsoft product.

I use LibreOffice and have never experienced a problem with it. I use their "word, excel, powerpoint" all the things you get with microsoft office and as a free product they work very well. They can open up microsoft files, and microsoft programs can open libreoffice files. I don't know if this is where the problem is coming from, but it is definitely worth a try since its free and works on windows.

 Yeah, isn't that a rip. We bought Adam a new lap top for graduation and it came with Windows 8 and no Office...bs

Yea, I heard about that Windows 8 w/o Office. Actually I think I found out about that here on our forums when we were discussing computers in that recent posting on the subject. Not having MS Office doesnt bother me much but dang, at least give us Word as part of the deal. I personally dont need the entire office program but having just Word would be nice.

If I had it my way, everything would run on opensource software, a linux based system (actually apple products is based off of linux) since I hate windows with a passion. Really that Libreoffice is really good stuff. Maybe if you were doing some really complicated things microsoft office would win, but I doubt it. Google has always been able to answer any question that I've had for libreoffice as there is a great support community for it. Maybe it's the youngster in me, but I'm always open to trying new things, especially free things!

I installed LibreOffice on our Windows 8 laptop, and it worked well with an older Excel file, other than I can't find the Auto Sum button?  I need to spend some time getting familiar with it.

Stan, I don't know that they have an auto sum button, but to the left of the input line, there is a sum button, and a function button. Guess I'm not sure what the difference between that and autosum is.
